We initially hired Alex ********************** and Blaker Restorations & Remodeling on 10/4/2022 for a small (10 x 11) laundry room remodeling project - move an electrical outlet straight up a wall 2 feet, install a small (2 x 5) shiplap accent panel, add cabinets, countertops, and a utility sink (for which plumbing was already installed), and paint. On initial consultation, he said all the right things and assured us this was an easy project for his crew, estimating 5-7 weeks to completion. We wrote him an $8000 check as a deposit, which he said was needed to secure cabinet materials and begin construction of them, as they had the longest lead-time. As of APRIL 2024(!), only the outlet has been moved, and partial completion of the accent panel and painting done. At EVERY turn, he has an excuse for why things were not progressing, and cared little about the impact of these on his commitments to his customer. To add to our frustration was his complete lack of professionalism in customer communication. He would not provide any proactive updates, and did not follow through on commitments. He even had the audacity to suggest on multiple occasions, that we were inconveniencing his personal time by pursuing updates and progress on a project almost 1.5 years behind schedule, and that we should just live with our current laundry room until it was convenient for him to do the work we paid him for. Our last communications to him requesting an update and a refund on this balance, so that we could contract another builder to complete the work, have been unanswered.18 months for a simple laundry remodel is NOT reasonable, nor the continued excuses for delays acceptable (or believable)! At some point if a builder is unable or unwilling to complete the agreed contract, they should have the integrity and professionalism to request the customer to find alternative solutions and refund outstanding balances for monies paid for work not completed!Initial Complaint

On July 28 2020 I signed a contract with Blaker Restorations for work including replacement of all windows in the house with new double-glazed nitrogen-filled windows, as well as other work (replacement of rotten wood on the house exterior, repainting of the exterior, and remodeling of the master bathroom). I paid the full amount of the original contract to Blaker Restorations, but the window replacement has not been begun. Blaker has repeatedly claimed to have ordered windows but refuses to provide receipts or identify the supplier. The intial contract was signed July 28 2020, with a total due of $48766.62. I paid an initial deposit of $25000 at that time.I paid the remaining balance of $23,766.62 on January 20 2021.I have requested completion of the work from Blaker Reconstruction numerous times, beginning in 2021. I have requested firm dates for the windows to be installed, or approximate dates for the work to be done. Either dates are not given, or they are given but then pass without work beginning. I have asked for details of the windows order or evidence that the windows have been purchased, but Blaker refuses to give any information.Business Response

After paying this contractor to design and build a foundation and driveway extension for a new single car garage, that took almost 2 years to complete, with numerous delays and excuses, and to also repair rock steps to front door and leaking roof over golf cart garage, its all falling apart in one way or another, and roof is leaking again. Contractor, Mr. *********************** keeps telling me he is going to be here with another worker, that didnt do the project in the first place, to check out and repair the discrepancies and make it right. He has yet to show up or call after numerous texts and emails from us with replies, and more excuses, over and over for months. He has our money, sorry I paid him, and doesnt seem to care about his quality of work or customer relations. This is the second complaint I have filed against Blaker Restoration and Construction and seem to get nowhere with him. We cant, in all conscience, recommend or rate this business any higher than an F minus for his business practices and quality of work standards. I have never met a person with more excuses and broken promises in my life. At this time were considering another avenue of restitution since he cant seem to follow through with his promises. He talks a good talk, but cant walk the walk!Business Response

I am rejecting this response because: This contractor continues to make excuses as to why this subpar construction cannot be rectified. Its always something: illness, death, stolen truck, had to go to ******, will be out there next week, etc., and next week never comes. Always one excuse after the other. This contractor talks big, but acts small. Meanwhile, construction work continues to decline. Never in my life have I dealt with anyone, or any company like this!

I am rejecting this response because: I keep hearing the same comments with no response or actions on the contractors part. The same old story. He talks a good story. Very good at that. Were so disappointed with this whole project, except the garage, which he didnt build.

On 10/19/21, I signed a contract with ******************************* of ********************** Restorations and Remodeling, and put over half the money down for window replacement with associated trim, drywall, etc work. He estimated it could take around 3 months for the windows to arrive, due to delays from Covid. I took his word for this, and agreed. As of today, 3/23/23, no material work has been performed at my house, and I still don't have new windows. Mr. ********************** has remained in contact over this year-and-5 month period, but has provided only delays and excuses, effectively holding my down payment as a loan with no interest charged. He has not fulfilled the work in the contract. After I filed an online review, he reached out via phone to offer a refund on 3/21/23. I accepted that offer via text message that evening. In the course of our text conversation, Mr ********************** then demanded that I remove the online review before he would begin the refund process. Not only has he failed to deliver on the original contract terms in a reasonable period of time, now he is attempting to hold the previously-agreed-upon refund ****** on the condition that I remove my review.Business Response
