I'm an avid Ancestry.com subscriber. For 15 years, I've loved the experience of building an extensive family tree. I was delighted by their DNA service. So I tried their ProGenealogists Service. I wish I read some reviews first, as it was very disappointing. The service promoted $3500 for pro research. I assumed that was marketing and the price would vary by scope. Keeping that in mind, I focused on 3 topics. Given my extensive research. I thought $3500 would be enough. From the first sales call, I realized $3500 wouldn't go far. So, I narrowed to 1 topic to kick off the project. Next up was a project manager. He confirmed scope that I entered in their online system, confirmed with the sales rep verbally and by email. We spoke again to reconfirm the scope that we had confirmed verbally and via email. Both times, he emphasized how little $3500 was even with the narrowed scope. When I talked to a genealogist, we reconfirmed the scope for the 4th timeand the project manager repeated $3500 wouldn't go far. No doubt since we wasted so much time reviewing and re-reviewing scope. My upsell antennae were on high alert.I was quality outcome focused, not cost-conscioussomething better than I could achieve on my own. I shared that perspective with all the reps. I hoped a pro genealogist, while potentially pricey, could produce a better outcome at a lower total costconsidering my time, travel and research expenses. Next, I received a feedback request email from Ancestry.com. I shared a low rating along with my experience and concerns. The feedback was constructive and respectful. Almost immediately, the project manager called. The pace of scheduling previous meetings had been slow, so I suppose I got their attention. The call was to fire me due to the low rating and dissatisfaction with the service. The project manager wasnt open to my feedback. He refunded my money but denied the upselling and wasn't interested in how they could improve the experience.
