We had solar panels installed in May of 2023. We were told we had a great warranty and if anything ever came up they would come fix it asap. Well now here we are, solar panels that aren’t even working and this company has magically disappeared. We spent over $40,000 for these. Not one phone number works, the emails don’t go through, we are just out of luck. I am sick of this

Back in November of 2023 we contracted with Platinum Solar to get solar panels and a whole home battery backup installed. We got the panels installed really fast but then we were waiting on building permits. The owner of the company Cameron C********** kept telling me that he was in contact with our city which is Hyrum Utah. After 6 months I got sick or waiting and contacted Hyrum city myself. Turns out Cameron was not working with them and they have been trying to get a hold of him to finish up multiple solar projects. I worked with Hyrum city and got the panels working but know Cameron will not talk with me about when he will install the batteries that we paid for. I have tried to contact him for weeks with b trying to get my batteries and he will not respond. I think he stole my money and ran.

Business installed the solar panels in October of 23 but never hooked them up to power grid and has absolutely refused to deliver the batteries that were supposed to be installed at the same time so I can’t even get another contractor to finish the installation hook up and platinum solar will not answer any phone or reply in any way to an email

To save on time, I am including a summary of what has happened in the words from the lawyer we talked to from the Idaho free lawyer services (which they did not take our case but gave us advice on who to contact) from when I explained the whole situation them. I hope that is okay? (The Idaho Volunteer Lawyer Program and its Phone Clinic, run through the Idaho State Bar.)
You marketed the sale of a solar power system that would be financed through a third party lender called Dividend. She indicates that you told them that the third-party lending would be to both pay for the solar power install and package as well as a separate windows install that had been done previously by a different company and had been financed by a different third-party. She said you told her that the financing from Dividend would include an additional amount for the amount that was owed to the financier of the windows and that once Dividend funded the loan of approximately $75,000 to you and your solar business, then you would give Ms. ******* the extra money so that she could pay off the windows’ financing in full. Instead, she says that once the loan funded, you failed to give her the extra money that was earmarked for the windows. Instead, you have kept that money for yourself, in violation of your promise to her and in violation of the fiduciary relationship you took on by accepting those loan funds on her behalf. I am unsure whether you told Dividend about the true purpose of the $75,000 loan, i.e. whether you made Dividend aware of the fact that it was providing financing for more than just the solar package? If not, that is also highly problematic. I am also unsure whether Dividend is properly licensed to be doing consumer financing in Idaho. I do not see them as a listed licensee to do consumer lending in Idaho.
I also anticipate that Dividend has taken a lien on the real property where the system was installed. Not enough room has been provided to explain everything. Will include doc.

We paid Platinum solar for a new Atlas Lux solar inverter that was supposed to automatically monitor solar and switch between solar power and electric grid automatically, including hooking to lead acid batteries and charging and utilizing their power as part of the system. They guaranteed us the inverter they sold us would do all this plus other functions. They also hooked in the solar panels to the inverter and were supposed to have tied in the outbuildings into the solar grid and inverter. They did not tie in the outbuildings at all. They didn't get the settings correct on the inverter to charge and utilize the batteries. The inverter is fried. It either had incorrect settings that fried it or it was defective to start with. It has shut down and won't come on at all. It shut down all the power to our house for several days as well until we could get an electrician to come out. They didn't set it up correctly including no shutoff for the solar, no permits, improper installation, improper meter, and not inverter or panel shutoff. They also had it backfeeding power to Rocky Mountain Power without permission. They will not return any calls or texts to fix these issues. We haven't been able to reach them for several weeks as we have been trying to get them to fix the settings and repair the current issues. Attached is one part of the payment. They didn't give us proper receipts, either but we did pay the full 9500. They rerouted power in the breaker boxes as well and mixed things up. They dug up a flowering bush without permission and killed it. There are still lots of solar and electrical issues that need to be resolved.

In 2022 we signed an agreement to install solar with Platinum Solar. Once we obtained financing through the suggested company (by Platinum Solar), we learned that Brigham City would not allow the hook-up until the transformer was upgraded. As to not lose the financing, Platinum Solar pushed us to complete the install within the financing company's timeframe; and they made an agreement with us that they would make ALL payments to us for the financing company until we had finalized the hook-up to the new transformer. For the first year, they did pretty good at keeping up; they only missed a couple of payments. Since then, we have received very few, if any payments as per the agreement. I have contacted Cameron, the owner, multiple times via text message with only one response since December 2023; and before that emails with the office personnel with either promises to send a check or no response at all. We expect that the company uphold their end of the bargain or issue a full refund, including fixing our roof where the panels were installed. We recognize that the transformer from Brigham City has still not been received/installed, which is probably frustrating for Platinum Solar as well; however, it is not fair to expect us, the consumer, to carry solely the payment burden without the job being fully completed. $500 was paid to the company upon install. The contract price of $59,757 includes the cost of the new roof we needed in order to install panels in the first place. Monthly payments to the financing company is $163.09 of which we are at least a full 12 months behind on receiving reimbursement from Platinum Solar.

In the fall of 2022 we got our solar installed. It was not actually working until March of 2023. Since September of 2023 the system has not been working. All phone numbers for Platinum Solar have been disconnected and nobody emails back so we can't even use our system.

We also signed a contract for $33,392 and were surprised when we saw our loan amount was for their first quote they gave us of almost $40,000. We told them we didn't need all of the panels they had recommended and agreed to the $33,392 amount.

We are sick and don't know what to do. I've never been scammed before and this was already money we didn't have but they made us feel like it was such an easy switch from paying our electric company with rising rates to a fixed payment that would go away after 20 years.

I've attached a copy of our contract along with the loan amounts from Dividend.

We signed a contract with Platinum Solar in December 2023. They installed the system by December 28, 2023. Told us that we had to wait for an inspection before they would bring the batteries to finish the installation. On January 2nd, Platinum Solar was paid in full via their loan company, Enfin in the amount of $66,763.06. Not a single person from the company has reached out to us. I had to reach out to them January 18th asking when our inspection was going to be done. The salesman responded this “Hey, sorry for the late response! But I just reached out to our engineering to see if they have any update on that! I will let you know what they say when I get word back!”
Haven’t heard a word since, it’s 2/6/24. We just got our taxes done and are getting $15k less than we were told.
So our payment is going up from what they promised it would be after the tax returns. Sent texts, phone calls. No response. The salesman works for another company now. Finally got ahold of the installer who said that nobody works for the company anymore and the owner was redoing his business.
The next day after multiple unanswered calls to both the installer and owner, the owner finally answered and said he doesn’t know why the job isn’t done.
The owner (nor anyone from the company) has never contacted us or checked in since the day of the install 12/28/23. We were told on 12/28/23 that we should have the inspection the following week. Again, not a soul checked in on us. Nobody contacted us to set up a time/day. It wasn’t until 1/18/24 that I text the salesman to see what was going on.
I am currently consulting with an attorney in case they don’t finish the job.
Communication is key to any business. And this business owner clearly doesn't care.
I feel like we were scammed. I felt confident in this company as my friend has a solar system by them as well. I felt like the salesman was honest. My mistake. Won’t happen ever again.

      Business Response

      Date: 01/05/2024

We are in the process of trying to figure out what happened with this issue. We are always good at answering the phone when customers call in. Are follow up afterward needs some work.

I looked into the agreement on this one and didn't see anything in the contract that went over the loan reimbursement. We did find a note in our CRM that reflected the amount you notated.

We looked into the financing a little deeper and it appears that a mistake was made on the financing side with the sales rep and they made a mistake on the loan amount.

This is certainly not your fault, we are going to dig into this deeper with our sales rep and make sure we send you the amount your owed.

We look forward to making this right with you to your satisfaction.

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because: The business does answer the phone when I call but I can never talk to anyone about the problem I am always told someone will call me back but it never happens it's been over a year and nobody will let me know what is going on. This needs to be taken care of because it is affecting my life with the extra money borrowed I can't get financing for needed medical treatment.

      Sincerely,

I signed a contract in March of this year and the install was done in April, 2023 for a solar ajd battery backup system for my primary residence in Mendon, Utah.
The solar panels and power inverters were installed but I was told the batteries were on back order a few weeks and as soon as they arrived they’d be installed. A week later the system wouldn’t function as a solar controller was malfunctioning. Weeks / months went by and they came out put in refurbished controllers but we purchased new ones. As of today. They have not yet installed the batteries. I have x2 old used refurbished solar controllers that are mismatched and my sidewalk pavers they never properly put back. They know of this issue but they submitted to the finance company in April for payment on full, they e been in full and I’m stuck with a $69k loan at high interest. They have been reimbursing me each month for the payment but I’ve got a big loan on my credit, I cannot pay it off yet as the project isn’t complete now they won’t respond to my emails, I checked with the manufacturer of batteries and solar controllers and they wrote me back stating all equipment is fully in stock. Now Platinum Owner, Cameron tells me we got a “****** deal” and he’s got a different supplier he’s working with but he won’t give me a state when he will come finish the project and his office hasn’t responded to my emails or payment receipts anymore for reimbursement and they will not commit to any dates when they plan to dismiss the job. Things are getting worse not better.
Something is very fishy . They advertise on their website that they are BBB approved.

      Business Response

I have spoke to the homeowner regarding this complaint and are on track to remedy each item.

We feel really bad about your experience with us so far. We are working to resolve all your concerns with the project. Since this complaint we have installed the batteries for your project so the battery setup is complete.

We are in the process with working with the manufacturer regarding the refurbished controllers that replaced your original controllers we had issues with. The manufacturer is going to send us new controllers to replace the ones our supplier gave us and will work out the loss of product with them.

It seems like the pavers settled from the trench we had to make to get power from the other building, Come spring we can prep the ground properly and fix the paver issue.

We look forward to addressing all your remaining concerns in person as well.

      Cameron
