I want to clearly state my opposition to the 61.5 expansion as requested by Geneva Rock.

I firmly believe this is Geneva’s attempt to circumnavigate local land use authority, a long time accepted right of municipalities. Geneva should be held to the proper process and seek a land use amendment and a zoning map change. Going around the local authority is broad overreach, with incredibly far reaching, state wide repercussions. Geneva has a history of being dishonest and taking what is not theirs. They have been caught intentionally going beyond the boundary lines. They do not play fair. They should not be be given more autonomy. They have not earned it. They do not operate in good faith.

Geneva is a multibillion dollar company who places profits over people again and again. They donate generously to those in power. Too many of our legislative leaders are partners with Geneva in the building and development industry. Cheap gravel is what the development community wants- even if the cost is proper process and local authority. That is a price that should not be paid. We also need to recognize this land was never zoned for mining. It was always intended to be residential. It’s currently zoned agricultural. There is no reason for existing residents to have expected unilateral mining rights- it wasn’t planned as such. In fact these neighborhoods are already experiencing damage to homes and property, with constant unmitigated dust, broken windows, and shifting ground. Our air is polluted with dust, which rains down on homes and families daily.
