My name is ******* **********. I looked into buying hearing aids and was given the name of Better Hearing Center in Ogden, Utah. When the saleswoman, Summer C*****, came to my house and tested my hearing she recommended a product called Resound. She checked with my United Healthcare for coverage. Summer convinced me, though, that she could give me a better pair of hearing aids which would be a bit more expensive (but that she would give me a good discount). I met with her two times
afterwards to try to adjust the aids but I just felt they weren’t working for me and told her that. Summer kept telling me to wait before returning them, however, "just give it more time".
I tried to call her several times to ask how to return them. No one returned my calls. I even left a msg finally for the owner to call me back.
My daughter drove me all the way to Ogden 50 miles away to make sure they were delivered safely to the office. I was afraid to send them back thru the mail. We left them at the front desk with the secretary who assured me I would get a call back soon.
No calls so I I tried to call them again, leaving msgs to ask what they planned to do, and STILL no return calls. Yesterday I received the hearing aids in the mail (no business address even). I called the company, left a msg to please call me. No answer so I attempted to reach them again towards the end of the day and finally reached the secretary. She told me she understood and would get a msg to the owner of the company to call me. The bank they went through, Synchrony Bank, told me they would put in a 2nd "dispute" (Better Hearing Center refused the first one).
Several people (including The Office of Health and Human Services on Aging), suggested I reach out to you for help. They definitely took advantage of a much older senior citizen. Fraud, bad business practices, not sure what you would call it? But it's just not right.
Hopefully, you can help. Thank you.
