I took my jeep to "Aamco Transmission" at the end of March, 2024 I called before taking it and we talked on the phone. ******* the manager told me when I bring the jeep that it would be $299 for them to open it and see what the problem might be so I had it towed and I was ready to pay. ******* told me while I was there that there was no money needed. So they call me the next day or two and he told me that the reverse was acting funny when they drove it? And that he needs $1000 to open it up, I argued that he told me over the phone it would cost $299, he argued back that the price of $299 was for the transfer case. I told him I never mentioned or had any issues with the transfer case, I didn't want to argue since I was at work, so I went at lunch and paid the$1000, he calls a few days later and tells me that the converter was welded together and that my third gear was welded together and that there was no way to rebuild it and they can only put a new one and the cost would be $8,200. I told him it was to much and to put it together and I'll tow it. ******* called me the next day and told me he can drop the price to $6000, I told him no. He called back the next day and said he found a rebuild transmission and he can install it for $4500, I told him, you said that you can't do a rebuild transmission that it would have to be new? He told me he spent all night trying to find one. I told him but you couldn't help me out from the beginning. I refused the third offer and they had it ready a week later. I took it to "transmission specialist" a few blocks down. They looked at it and he told me that they didnt even opened the transmission. So they robbed $1000 from me. I would get the phone recording if I knew how?Business Response

Hello this is Aamco of *****. And there seems to be some miscommunication and misconceptions.
1. the Diagnostic fee is for the Computer Powertrain System Check, which was agreed to and performed to later determine any need for further testing or inspection. This is 299.99
2. There was no charge for the Computer Powertrain System Check, due to the nature of the customer proceeding with the Internal Inspection of their transmission, nothing was said about the transfer case, except for the transfer case may need additional inspection later on.
3. we provided results damage results from inspection with the customer, and provided many different options with varied warranties, but the customer did not choose any due to financial constraints. So we also offered even other alternatives with less costly options and various warranties, but again, the customer did not want anything else.
4. The internal inspection was performed, and the fee was collected. There will be no refund at this time, due to Aamco fulfilling the approved inspection requirements and providing the customer with everything they requested.
5. furthermore, Transmission Specialists does not pertain nor affiliate with Aamco, and therefore cannot be compared or considered to be in the same category, The customer chose willingly to go to another ********************** repair shop, and therefore got different perspectives from them. It has nothing to do with the work performed at Aamco.

On January 12th the CV axle broke off the joint on the right front wheel of my Honda Odyssey. I had my van towed to AAMCO. I got a call Tuesday the 16th that the transmission was good, and the left side CV axel was good, but I needed a new CV axle on the right side and a transmission flush. I agreed to the service. I got another call saying that the van was finished. I went to pick it up on the 16th at around 5PM. The manager told me that they took the van on two runs on the freeway and some trips around town with no problems. I paid the bill of $2,083.02. We got in the van to leave. When we put it in reverse, it made a grinding sound and didn't move. I went back inside the store and told the manager. He had a mechanic come out to hear the sound. He said there was definitely a problem but the mechanic who had done the job had gone home. They took it back into the shop and said the transmission will have to be rebuilt. The manager said sometimes the mechanic bumps something when he puts the new axle into the transmission, and had probably knocked something out of place. They told us it will cost at least another $1000 plus parts, and take another 3-5 days. They would call with the parts total for approval. The manager admitted that the mechanic's mistake is what caused the transmission to need a rebuild. We've never had an issue with our transmission before taking it to this shop. We didn't heard anything by the 29th, so we called the shop. There was no answer on the 29th or 30th, so my husband stopped by today January 30th. He was quoted another $4,500 to repair their mistake. The manager went as far as saying that we broke if after they fixed it. This is impossible since we only put the van in reverse and it made a sound immediately. We tried emailing the owner two weeks ago and he hasn't responded to us. I tried working with the company before reaching out to you. I need our family car fixed, but shouldn't have to pay for the damage they caused.Initial Complaint
