Brought my truck in a while back, told them it had the "lifter tick" issue that was very common with my year/make/model of truck. (06 ***** 1500)After the initial diagnosis, they called to tell me it wasn't the lifters but the rockers, and that it would be a $1600 fix. woohoo... I believed them and signed off..Next call was to inform me that it wasn't the rockers, but the push rods. And for an additional $1600 ($3200 total) they could fix it.. I signed off, ********** call...turns out it wasn't the push rods either, but was in fact lifters like I had said in the beginning. Quoted me $10k to fix..I will give them credit that they did cut the cost down to $8200 instead of the original 10k they quoted. However, I'm now here trying to sell the truck and am struggling to even get texts with it listed at 8k (~500 miles later).I get mis-diagnosis happens, but the fact I called out the lifters as being the problem in the very beginning when dropping off the truck, and they sunk me $3200 into the other fixes before actually agreeing and quoting another 7k was pretty lame. When I was reluctant to put the additional 7k in, they responded with "You'd be surprised how much you can get for these trucks. Ive seen *****k regularly."All in all, bad experience that has costs me thousands and am now taking a loss on the truck. Would not recommend. Should've just drove the sucker into the ground and avoided this place.Even in the write-up it shows that I called out the lifters in the beginning.

I'm sorry to have to write such a negative review since the guys at Steve's are so kind. But they were dishonest about the work my car needed. I took my 2017 ******* Tuscon in after it went into limp mode. Steve's told me it needed a new head gasket ($5,403) and new spark plugs and coils ($1,343), totally over $8,000 of work when you added taxes and labor. I wanted a second opinion so I took it to three other shops (******* Dealership in ******, Car Doctor in ***** and ************* in *****). All three shops did the same tests that Steve's said they did and all three shops said my head gasket was fine, but my spark plugs and coils did need replacing. I got the job done at ******** for $527.I was really hurt by the dishonesty at Steve's. They would've replaced the spark plugs and coils (what my car actually needed) and pocketed over $5,500 for work my car didn't need. I would recommend getting second opinions on any work you have Steve's quoted for.

We're also sorry that you distrust the auto repair industry so much that you would simply assume we were dishonest in our recommendation. Sometimes, as good as we are, like anyone else we're liable to make mistakes. If our diagnosis was incorrect, wouldn't it be possible that the mistake was an honest one? On the other hand, we often fix vehicles that no other shops can fix, including dealerships. Isn't it possible that the other shops you took your vehicle to didn't properly inspect the head gasket (many mechanics today don't know how to properly test them), and simply recommended the spark plugs and coils since it was so obvious that those parts needed to be replaced? Also, a bad head gasket over time can damage spark plugs. Whether our diagnosis was correct or not, we truly regret that this experience added to your distrust of mechanics, especially since our #1 goal is to provide outstanding customer ********************** and change the current negative perception of our industry!
