I went to this clinic on 1/10/23 as it was listed on BCBS Regence’s directory. I had a new chiropractic benefit that allows me 10 spinal adjustments for $10 copays (deductible waived). I called the office that morning to ask about an appointment for a spinal adjustment. I was scheduled for 4p. I arrived on time, checked in and was told to wait. I asked if I could settle up my copay while I waited in order to save time. The front desk person told me no, we would do it later. I was shuffled in an out of rooms to have multiple assessments, xrays, etc.
I asked every time if this was necessary and included in the spinal adjustment. They told me they would bill
insurance and it is just part of their new patient intake. I was VERY concerned that this was fraud and they
were just racking up billable line items to charge my insurance. At the end of 1.5hrs of shuffling,
the doctor told me I would need to come in the next day to go over the xrays (a whole new appt/date of
service to bill things under). He took me to the front desk and told me the same front desk person who checked me in would charge me $100 for the visit and if my insurance covered the charges, they would refund me. Feeling like I had no choice, I handed over my credit card.
I called BCBS the next day and spoke to a member services person about my concerns re this aberrant billing. He advised me to wait and see how the claim was filed and processed. It came back with multiple duplicate codes for hundreds of dollars and is still being worked on by BCBS. I filed a dispute w/my credit card company but because I signed the receipt, they can’t help me. The doctor called me in regards to my cc dispute and accused me of misinforming him of my benefits (until I sent him the attached BCBS screenshots).
BCBS also advised leaving the clinic a negative review, reporting them to CMS and also to the state insurance. I have since found another BCBS contracted chiro who charges me the stated $10 per adjustment w/o issue.
