I am the healthcare director for my aunt, Roseanne P***. She had a stroke Dec. 20, 2023. During her hospital stay at UCD, she had a G-tube inserted on Jan 4, 2024 due to swallowing difficulty. She went to UCD acute rehab on January 9 for aftercare & was cleared by Speech Therapy to eat pureed food a week later, so the tube was not in use. Upon her discharge on January 27, the MD said the tube couldn't be removed for another two weeks(Feb 10th) because it had to "cure" meaning you can't remove a G-tube before it s***iciently heals or gastric fluid could leak into the wound. Rosie was admitted to a rehab/skilled nursing facility - Advanced Healthcare Sacramento on February 12th. I told them she had a G-tube that was not in use & asked them about removal since it was after the 2 weeks the UCD MD said was needed to cure the tube incision. Despite this, nothing was done to address the removal of the tube until March 20, which was a week before her scheduled discharge date. The MD tried to remove the tube inhouse, but was unable, so they had to outsource the removal. After 6 weeks of delays, they got removal scheduled at a GI clinic on May 9. When they sent her there, the GI team refused to remove the tube without a full Speech Therapy evaluation. She had several of these by UCD rehab & by AHC and had been cleared. She also had a newly signed Advanced Directive that indicated she did not want tube feeding. It appears AHC did not send this vital documentation indicating this information to them so the GI Team refused to remove it & sent her back. It was rescheduled for May 24 after documents sent. By this time, with 8 weeks of delays, my aunt's allotted Medicare 100 days were all used up and her mental health was shot. Billed her $7,200 for her stay after the 100 days. It's their delays and errors that chewed up her Medicare 100 days, & caused her to lose her reserved room at assisted living. I have emailed them this information and they refuse to remove charges.
