In 2018, I purchased an oral sleep appliance and was told I would have free adjustments for life. Since 2018, I have gone into the business several times for adjustments and was only charged for any new products I purchased. In August 2021, I went in for an adjustment and purchased some cleaner, which I paid in full for. Today, 1/31/2023, I get a bill from the business saying I owe $82 with no explanation. I call the business and they tell me that I was supposed to have been charged an office visit charge. When I tell them that was never explained to me at the time of the visit or I would have paid it. The manager explained that I should have been charged the office visit since the beginning as the device only came with a 90 day warranty. Therefore she said it was a compromise to only charge me for the last visit. I attempted to tell the manager that this didn’t seem right as nobody had ever told me and going forward that would make sense. However to retroactively go back and charge me last visit was unethical. The business has refused to remove this charge claiming that I should have been charged an office visit fee since I had gotten my device. They have most certainly lost my business and I feel a billing adjustment to remove the office visit is needed.

The patient was fitted with a oral sleep appliance several years ago.  The person who helped her is no longer employed at our office and did not have the authority to promise adjustments for life.  There is no note in the patients clinical notes or chart that indicates such a promise.  We have a new computer system that is more accurate with accounts receivable and tracking than we have had in the past.  We acknowledge that she should have been told that there would be a charge, but did not appreciate her uncooperative attitude about the matter.  When I spoke to her on the phone and tried to explain the situation, she just got mad and said she would never come here again.  I don't know of any medical or dental office that you can expect to have ongoing treatment for no charge continuously.  We will, however, just write off her charge and hope to have no other problems with her.   Please call if you have any questions.  My personal cell phone number is ###-###-####
