My dad *********************** held a policy with Navy Mutual for me totaling $118,601.75 that was to be made 10 years after his death back in December of 2018. I was unaware of this policy and never received a notice from Navy Mutual. About 3 weeks ago my sister asked me about this policy and then sent me the information on this policy. I have now contacted them 3 times, once a week and emailed them and they don't respond and will not give me a contact person. If I call they tell me the funds went to The Ohio Department of Unclaimed Funds, but I contacted them and they said that never happened! This sounds very fishy to me!!I'd like to know where these funds are and stop getting the runaround from them as well as the interest for these funds. I will also be looking into further actions that I can take to recover these funds.

    RE:Complaint from ***************************, # ********

    Ladies and Gentlemen:
Thank you for the opportunity to reply to the complaint that the Better Business Bureau received from *************************** about the Navy Mutual Aid Association (the "Association"), your ID # ********.

The Association is a member-owned nonprofit organization that is tax-exempt under the Internal Revenue Code. We were established in 1879 to aid families of deceased members of the Navy, and our core mission today remains to help secure the future of those who serve our nation. In addition to making benefits such as life insurance and annuities available, we provide financial education to active duty servicemembers and veterans and, as the nation's oldest federally-recognized ****************************** an extensive array of veteran services.

Mr. ******* complaint centers on the location of his portion of the death benefit proceeds from life insurance contracts that covered the life of his father, *********************** with the Association. *********************** died in November 2018, and benefits payments were made to the other beneficiaries related to these policies in January and March of 2019. After several attempts to contact ******************************* to settle his portion of the claim, we were unsuccessful in bringing resolution to the claim and the funds were escheated as unclaimed property in May 2023 to the Ohio Department of ****************** of *************************** of Commerce). Prior to Mr. ******* inquiry to the Better Business Bureau in August of this year, at our direction he contacted the Department of Commerce, which at that time had no record of these funds. Since Mr. ******* inquiry, and on his behalf, the Association reached out to the Department of Commerce and provided a copy of the receipt of the payment to the State representing Mr. ******* funds (inclusive of interest). On September 4th, the Department of Commerce confirmed it was in possession of Mr. ******* funds and is currently processing his request. At no time was the Association withholding Mr. ******* death benefit or otherwise not assisting him with recovering the funds from the Department of Commerce. We are pleased the State of Ohio has addressed its error.

We consider this matter satisfactorily resolved. Again, thank you for this opportunity to respond.

    Sincerely,
    **************************
