    Hey everyone! I attended an Atlantis program in Pavia, Italy this past summer (summer 2022). I participated in the program after my freshman year of college and I would say that it really solidified the fact that I am passionate about medicine. During my 3 week program, I shadowed in the ER, cardiosurgery, and general surgery. Everyone in the hospital was super eager to have me and taught me so much about these specialties. I even still keep in touch with a few of the medical students who were helping me out during my time there. I was able to witness things hands-on that I never would have been able to here in the United States, such as open heart surgery. Being in Italy, I was also able to travel a lot throughout Europe and truly immerse myself in European culture. I made amazing friends on my program, and it was wonderful to be surrounded by people who had similar goals as me. It was a very motivating environment. For anyone who wants to partake in shadowing, but also wants to study abroad, this is definitely the perfect program for you! I wouldn't change my experience for the world and if I could do it again, I most definitely would.

    Incredible story! It's so unusual for pre-medical students to be able to witness open heart surgery, or any surgeries for that matter, before applying for medical school. We're so glad you had the chance to shadow 3 different specialties with Atlantis in *****, and that you would do it again if you could!

    Over the summer of 2022, I participated in an Atlantis Service-Research Project with the Children's National Hospital in Washington, D.C.! I was able to meet and work with incredible pre-med students from around the world and learned so much about the hospital's role in addressing the public health needs of the greater D.C. community. By speaking with those directly impacted by the CNH's Community Health Improvement Plan, I left the trip with a greater appreciation of a new aspect of healthcare, and I was so glad that I got to learn about diverse individuals and characteristics in a new place. The contacts at the Children's National Hospital were so generous; completing a service-research project is such a fulfilling and heart-warming experience!

    I attended an Atlantis program in Valladolid, Spain this past summer (2022). My 3 week program consisted of shadowing at Rio Hortega University Hospital various specialties such as OBGYN, General Surgery, and Cardiology. The program makes sure to set you up with doctors who are able to explain everything in English. I was fortunate enough to know the native language, but do not worry if you don't! During your program, you will have a site manager who orients you around your program's city. Your tuition includes very nice housing, nice meals, breakfast groceries, tours, excursions and more. I went without knowing anybody in my group and we all became very good friends instantly! We still talk to this day and visit eachother :) The opportunity is definitely one considering and I cannot recommend it more! I mean international shadowing? It sounds amazing by itself! Plus all the extras Atlantis has to offer :)

    This May of 2022, I went on an Atlantis medical shadowing trip in Spain and absolutely loved it! My experience shadowing Dermatology and Psychology was really informative and super engaging and I still keep in touch with the doctors I shadowed! Every part of the Atlantis experience is amazing, from the support you get from the site leader to the excursions. The food in Spain was wonderful and it was great to travel abroad and learn about a new culture as well!

    I did an Atlantis Program the Summer of 2022. This was seriously one of the most life changing experiences for me. I was in Genoa, Italy and got to shadow surgeries in OBGYN, orthopedics, and urology departments. The things I had the privilege to observe was something I don't think I could've gotten anywhere else. Additionally, the cultural immersion aspect of the trip was also incredible. I got to see so many different parts of Italy and had the program manager tell us all the best places to go. Doing this program satisfied my need for a study abroad experience.

    I completed 80 AAMC-compliant physician shadowing hours through the Atlantis Clinical Fellowship at Gennimatas General Hospital in Athens, Greece. My experience shadowing physicians in Athens, Greece, at Gennimatas Hospital was invaluable and gave me a fundamental understanding of what I hope to specialize in as a future physician. Through this experience, I not only embraced the ethical responsibility of learning from doctors through observation but also gained exposure to global healthcare. I learned how to overcome cultural communication barriers in my interactions with clinicians and recognized the subtle peculiarities of a foreign hospital. I built upon my critical thinking skills and utilized scientific inquiry as I followed along with surgical procedures and witnessed each unique doctor-patient interaction. I recently applied to medical schools in the United States through AMCAS, and I am currently completing several interviews for admission. When filling out my medical school applications, I described what I learned from my clinical fellowship with Atlantis and how it reinforced my passion for becoming a physician. This experience is a staple of my application, which helps set me apart from other applicants. From my clinical fellowship, I know this career path is the only one I desire.

    I had the pleasure to travel to Sibenik, Croatia Summer of 2022. I came across this program through a school program at UT Austin and my application process was a bit different than most people who go on this experience. I do believe it was an easier application process but the experience I think was the equivalent to any other program. Our site manager, Ena, was so thoughtful and attentive to our needs. Although a bit chaotic, the hospital was open to teaching us about their day-to-day lives. On top of the great shadowing experience, we also got to wander the small town of Sibenik and interact with the sweet locals. Our weekend excursions planned by Ena were something to look forward to because it was a day filled with fun activities and yummy food. Overall, all my interactions with the Atlantis program have been positive and I am thankful I had the chance to partake in such an amazing trip.
