Our shop purchased a used engine assembly from Parts Unlimited 3/20/2023 by VIN to install in a customer's vehicle in our shop. Immediately after installation, the engine provided by Parts Unlimited, was found to be extremely noisy and to have pre-existing catastrophic damage that was not disclosed prior to installation. The vehicle never made it out of the shop. Contact was made immediately to notify the yard of the faulty engine and was advised that he had another and he would get it sent to me within a couple of days. In the mean time, we removed the faulty engine to await the replacement. Several days later, we still had not seen or heard from them so we called to follow up on the ETA of the replacement engine assy. He explained he didn't have another engine to give me, he was not going to look for another one and he was not covering the cost of labor/ fluids etc to install/ un-install their faulty engine. I explained to him that it was bad business to refuse to cover expenses in this case as the normal warranty hadn't even begun yet. The receipt states a "90 day warranty" and he did not disclose that it would be only a parts warranty until I called 4/24/23 to ask for him to pay for 15 hours of labor & fluids that was necessary to replace the engine. He ultimately stated he would refund me the cost of the engine and proceeded to hang up on me. It is very unethical to expect the customer to pay for all of this or the shop to eat all of this cost when the customer never got the opportunity to drive the car at all. We ordered parts in good faith that the business would practice good ethics considering . It is not right for the technician & shop to cover the cost of their poor ethics & poor business practices. We would consider discounting labor & fluids to resolve this issue. Contact is requested to settle the bill as soon as possible. A refund receipt for the engine assembly is also requested immediately.

I reimbursed the cost of the engine, labor and fluids in April.   They should have received the refund check.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution would be satisfactory to me.  I will wait for the business to perform this action and, if it does, will consider this complaint resolved.
