A Forever Home Rescue does not make policies known to prospective adopters. Poor experience! My daughter and I attended one of their adoption events last Saturday and feel in love with a German Shepherd mix puppy. My 24 year old daughter filled out the application and I co-signed because my daughter was told she could not adopt because this dog was on the restricted breed list and Lauren did not own the home. No problem, I didn’t hesitate to co-sign because the person talking to Lauren said that would be enough to meet criteria. Sunday we actually visited foster mom’s house to visit this puppy because I didn’t want to bring a dog into our home without everyone meeting her. My husband and my mother went along with Lauren and I. Now we all were in love with this puppy.

The virtual home call that was scheduled Wednesday got cancelled. For what? I was told that our application was denied.

So my husband and I filled out an application to be fully responsible for this puppy and we were told since our daughter was the intended original adopter WE were being denied. My husband and I have rescued two German Shepherds from LCAS. We own our home, been married for 34 years and have a large fenced in back yard.

We feel as though we were treated unfairly. discriminated against, and certainly judged. Policies made up on the fly to prevent this puppy from going to a loving home. I do not recommend this rescue because they will break your heart. Not worth even one star rating! But I couldn’t submit this review without giving it one. Totally not deserving! Their application isn’t worth the paper it’s print on.

Save your time, energy, money and most of all, heart ache. Long story short, my mother has been fostering for this organization almost 20 years. After a few personal adoptions, over 80k in home remodels from puppies destroying the home, not their fault, and tens of thousands of personal income spent on hospital visits, toys and food, with no reimbursements, A Forever Home has declined our application on a dog we were fostering for them (for free).
Situation: my mother is elderly and gets joy from fostering puppies. She now lives with me and decided we can foster a litter for her enjoyment. After a week, the puppies still had diarrhea and blood in their stool. We contacted the owner of AFH and explained the situation. We live in Spotsylvania and the owner is in Chantilly. She demanded we drop what we were doing and drove a total of 4 hours to Chantilly to pick up medicine, not willing to meet halfway. We declined and said we would see a vet, from our personal income, near us, the vet said the dogs needed deworming treatment and be tested for other parasites. The owner said no and wanted to provide her prescribed medication, not a vet, and wanted us to come to Chantilly again.
The owner has a management complex and wants to control everything. If you do not obey her demands, you will be disregarded like trash. The owner over charges for adoptions, takes 2-3 weeks to finalize adoptions and will deny families on bias opinions and not provide reasons. Also, I do not believe the dogs are vetted as in having all their shots and being in a good clean bill of health prior to adopting.
Again, after pouring large amounts of personal funds into fostering, providing safe environments for puppies and offering up our home for a good cause, AFH moved puppies for a good home out of spite and principle due to unreasonable demands not being met and than denying our application on a puppy my kids and family became attached too.
