I live in the Westmoreland Square HOA in Falls Church VA. I have water runoff from community property onto my property that has damaged my home and continues to do so. I have raised the issue directly with Sequoia Management and my HOA Board for over a year without any action been taken. The HOA community sidewalk dead ends in front of my home as has been admitted by a Board member exists as an above ground gutter to deliver water flow to then flow across my property. Sidewalk literally dead-end as there is no other HOA community walkway beyond it. The sidewalk in front of my home does not deliver people anywhere-- its purpose is to dump waterflow directly into my property; then leaving a flood of water left to run into my home and across my property.
This is from an HOA Board member's written response to my issues:
"The sidewalks in our community are an important component of a system in which water is routed to the storm sewers and from there into Davidson’s Branch. So water flowing down them is what is supposed to happen based on how WS ("Westmoreland Square") was designed."
Here's links to a couple videos I have on YouTube of water with nowhere to go but all over my property. According to Sequoia Management and my HOA Board this is what is supposed to happen
**************************** ****************************  As well the Sequoia management company and the HOA replaced outdoor community lights with very bright new lighting. One of the new light was shining very brightly through the front window of my home. I complained to Sequoia and the HOA and they refused to make any changes. I made a complaint with the county and then the adjusted the light but remains too bright.

This Homeowner's issues are with the Board of Directors and not Sequoia Management as Sequoia Management has no authority to resolve these issues unilaterally without Board approval. The drainage and sidewalk are as the property was built and nothing has been altered since that time. The Board refuses to take any action on this. There was always a pole light a this location, but it was replaced with a brighter light. The Board did add a shield on one side of the light to try to mitigate the brightness. The Owner wants the light removed but the Board refuses to do so.

I would like to amend my response as follows: The Homeowner's issues are with the Board of Directors as Sequoia Management has no authority to resolve these issues unilaterally without Board approval. At this time, the Board refuses to take any action on the drainage issue. The Homeowner filed a complaint with Fairfax County regarding the light. On August 25, 2023, Charles F******* with Fairfax County sent the following email to the Homeowner:
Hi Scott- your case is closed. I walked all around out there in the dark the other night and took readings-the lights are MUCH brighter facing away from your house in both instances. If they changed or rearranged the bulb orientation or put in shields, it worked! I am not writing anything up. Thank you!
As a result, the Board is not taking any action on this issue either.

As President of the Board for a Northern Virginia community, I cannot emphasis enough how important a good managing agent it. Community Managers assist Boards with almost everything they do. They handle the good, the bad and the sometimes ugly as some other reviewers have expressed. We recently switched from another management agent that was just not meeting our needs.
We reached out to 20 local community management companies as a part of our transition process. Of those 20, only ten responded to our RFP. We narrowed those 10 down to our top four to interview with the Board. After the first interview, we wondered if we had made the right decision. On the second day, we interviewed Sequoia. From the moment we shook hands, we knew we had a potential winner.
Sequoia sent the VP of their Residential Division, their Tech Director, and their proposed Community Manager. All three proved to be knowledgeable, confident, and very capable. They made an uncertain selection process enjoyable. They answered all the Board's questions with poise and expertise. They appreciated the issues we had with our former management company and presented real, actionable solutions. They even went so far as to obtain access to TownSQ, the web portal our community had come to depend on, to minimize disruption to our community's online HOA experience.
No other prospective management company came even close to satisfying the unique needs and requirements of our community. We are now two months into our experience with Sequoia and could not be happier with their performance. They have proven to be everything they promised to be during their interview. I firmly believe we have found a true partner that we can rely on for years to come.
If you are a Board member seeking to change management companies, reach out to Sequoia and ask for my contact. I am happy to share our entire experience in order to help other Boards achieve better success with their managing agents.
