I called the funeral home that we used for my grandmother and others. Everything seemed fine when I arranged to have my aunt picked up from the hospital. I advised ***** McClenny, that services would take place in ********. Again, everything seemed fine, no additional info was provided. When I called the church in ********, the minister was surprised and said that most members used *****. We talked a bit more, and she told me that ******* no longer had a location in ********. I wasn't aware of this because I had only been back in ******** for about a year and no one at McClenny mentioned this. I found out when I called the other home who did some other relatives, and they said they just needed ******* to bring the body back from ***************. ***************?!! Then how were they planning to do the *************** Service and Interment in ********? I told *************** that I was moving the services to another Funeral Home because my aunt had prepaid. *************** said ok and that I would have to pay for the transport, which was fine. But then she asked more than once about transferring the prepaid service to *******. I let her know that we would proceed with what my aunt had planned. She then said they had begun the embalming. My focus was getting my aunt back to ********. And quite honestly, my aunt is the last of the women who raised me so I was also suffering from functional depression - I didn't have the energy to argue. I said I would pay for the embalming and transportation. The bill for transport and embalming came to $2956: $900 of this was for transport. The transportation cost would have been unnecessary if McClenny and ******* had fully disclosed their business situation. I just looked up their address - they still show a Richmond address. I also found a Richmond phone which someone answered. I asked *************** for $1,00 back from the cost of embalming and transportation. I received an initial No and then nothing.
