The transaction took place on Sunday, November 20 2022.I paid $600.00 for The Fluid Dynamics of Craniosacral Therapy: A Fundamental Course in Biodynmaics a 6 week course worth 30 hours in continuing education units. I requested to withdraw from the course due to poor quality of instruction and lack of appropriate procedures to insure a safe (emotional and psychological) learning environment. I sent an email on Sunday, November 20, 2022 to ************************************* - the instructor of the course series - stating that I wanted to withdraw from the course series and to come to a mutual agreement around partial reimbursement. I had attended the first class out of the 6 class series in person. Due to illness I was unable to attend the second class and requested to observe the lecture via Zoom or ****** meets. ********* chose instead to send me two ******* videos and a recording of a class exercise. This material did not cover the class material in full. Due to only attending 2 out of the 6 classes I proposed a partial reimbursement of $400.00. A refund policy was not stated at the time of registration.********* replied to my email on November 20, 2022 stating that she would not ***** a refund and banned me from continuing the class series. The nature of the email was abusive. Please see the email exchange attached as a PDF:

    Business Response

    Date: 11/30/2022

This is my response to a complaint filed against me:

BBB Case # ******** - Birth and Biodynamics Midwifery

I was first contacted by ******************************** and a mutual friend on 9/12/2022 requesting that I offer a continuing education course that I am certified to teach as an approved provider for the ************** of massage and bodywork called The fluid dynamics of Craniosacral therapy: a fundamental course 30 CE approved by the ******.

Since I was being asked to teach the course to ************* and 2 other students I had to make room in my busy work schedule as a licensed midwife specifically for the participant. I explained I usually reach this 30 hour course over a course of 4 days for 7.5 hrs each day. ************* explained she couldnt take that kind of time to participate in a course and requested having the course spread out over a period of weeks meeting 4-5 hrs per meeting until the 30 hrs of education were complete. I went out of my way to accommodate the student.

Ms ********************* registered for the course 10/7/2022 via eventbrite:

    *****************************

    **************************** Order#**********

The FluidDynamics of CraniosacralTherapy: AFundamentalCourse in Biodynamics

She paid 600 for the class.

Me ***** contacted me a number of times before the class in order to ask me about my credentials for teaching the class and a week before the class ************* asked to receive a copy of the student manual that goes along for the course which I was unable to comply due to my busy schedule. ************* also requested an in person meeting before the course which I was again unable to provide as I run a solo practice as a midwife and I am a single mom. I also had never been questioned or contacted as much as me ***** did in the weeks leading up to the course and I was a little concerned about the ethics of providing a student manual before a course began or meeting in person with a student enrolled in one of my professional education courses.

    The course started Nov 2,2022

************* attended the first day of the course. During the hands on portion of the course I noticed she stopped participating after her turn on the table. To be clear the hands on portion of the class the students are fully clothed.

The following week ************* contacted me 24 hrs before 2nd day of the course and stated she was ill and asked for special consideration to attend the class via zoom. I agreed I would try to accommodate as best I could but due to my busy schedule and lack of an extra computer or zoom account that it may not be possible. However I would share with her the material we were going to go over that day. I worked up to the last minute for class but was unable to provide a live stream for the course. This course is approved as a hands-on in-person live course only.

The following week ************* emailed me Nov 20, 2022 to say she was dissatisfied with the course and would like a refund.

    I refused for these reasons:

1.) the course was already in process.

2.) I was teaching the course only by the request of the student. If the student had not requested I would not have taught the class.

3.) I went out of my way to accommodate the course dates and times specifically to meet ************* needs. This was very difficult for me to arrange and less ideal for the structure of the course though I was open to trying a different way at the request and what sometimes felt like demands of the student.

4.) This is a professional continuing education course for massage therapists in a modality I hold some of the highest credentials in. I have taught this course many times and believe I have a lot to offer. I have taught hundreds of students and have never had a bad complaint.

5.)I believe the student did not attend enough of the course to make judgement on my teaching ability or style. I feel the student was demanding and requested too many special considerations.

6.) the student withdrew from the course upon her own request. After she did this I asked her to not contact me again.

7.) I have never heard of a professional training or course to offer refunds after the class had started.

8.) if the student had withdrawn before the course date I could have offered a spot for another student to attend. The course had a limited number available attendees. I had turned at least 4 people away who wanted to attend the course.

9.) as an instructor with nearly 10 years experiencing teaching massage therapy techniques it is not my responsibility to convince a person to like me personally or the course. This was a professional training and if someone wants to place judgement on the quality of the class within the first 5 hours of a 30 hour continuing education course, they are not giving the instructor enough of a chance to relay the entire modality in order for the student to understand the work. Quitting before the conclusion is simply the failure of the student not that failure of the instructor.
