    I am extremely upset with this accounting firm. They willfully ignored our written, specific instructions to them to have our *** refund returned to us by direct deposit, and then lied about it. They deliberately left this area of our return blank, and then stated that it is "easier" for the *** to send a paper check, and to have a "trusted friend or relative" receive our paper check and deposit it for us. We live overseas. This is an unacceptable solution to their decision to deliberately ignore written client instructions, without prior approval or discussion.
    This is unacceptable. **** ******* has a fiducuiary duty to us to follow our instructions, not ignore ones that are inconvenient for her staff. Apparently transcribing the account information from the void check and written instructions we gave her firm was too much bother.
    Her "solution" is also completely unacceptable. I am not comfortable doing business with a firm that (a) ignores specific written client instructions and (b) lies about sending "previous correspondence" to the client, when none exists.
    We have not had a paper check mailed to us in over 15 years, and certainly never when we were overseas. We have had multiple refunds of over $****** deposited into our bank account. **** *******'s excuse to breaching her duty to us has no foundation and is in my view, unethical conduct.
    We never agreed that she was authorized to completely leave the "direct deposit" box unchecked, and failed to transcribe the information for our bank that we provided to her.

    I am sorry that you are so upset.  Your request was not willfully ignored nor is including direct deposit information considered inconvenient by our firm. You were informed, via email, and your husband was informed via phone, that since your refund was over the **********, that the *** would most likely mail a check.  You were then asked to confirm your mailing address (in the very same email and line item as the statement that the *** would send a check).  Since you responded to the request to confirm the address, you must have seen the statement regarding the mailing of the refund check.


    As stated before, this is an *** policy, not our office policy.  Your direct deposit information was also included on the return, but it will be at the discretion of the *** if they send out a check or a direct deposit.  Once again, you can confirm this *** policy by contacting the *** directly at 1-800-829-1040. 


    Since you mentioned that you would not be at the address you had confirmed via email, I did offer to send in the change of address form to the *** for you so that any mailed check would be sent to a trusted family members address instead of an empty home.  I do still strongly recommend that a change of address form be filed with the *** so that your refund check will reach you.   If the check is returned to the *** by the post office, then the *** will simply hold onto the funds until you reach out to them.
