I had surgery at Fairfax Surgical Center on 7/7/2022 My file was sent to them on 6/15/22 On 7/6 they called to tell me my amt due was $721.90, they said they just received my file from my surgeon's office. I paid $721.90 on 7/7. In Aug-22 I was sent a new bill owing an additional $665.58, they said b/c *****, my insurance's website gave them them wrong quote, I encouraged them to re-submit to include the original quote. In Sept-22 they said my insurance told them I am responsible for the additional amt, I told them they made the mistake and they should be responsible for that amount. In Dec-22 they sent me to collections. In Jan-23 I spoke to my surgeon's office, they agreed it was wrong for me to be billed the additional $665.58 and would call the surgery center to see what happened, I was told the surgery center's contract with *****, was in negotiation and that's why I was quoted the wrong amount and ended up owing more. I believe it is highly unethical that there was no disclosure given to me that the surgery center's contract was changing and undetermined, or that my amount to pay may change. They quoted me an amount ONE day before my surgery based on their, what turns out to be, a quick look at *****'s website when they should have called to confirm knowing their contract was in negotiation. I paid the amt they asked for on short notice, when they had my file for over two weeks, it was their responsibility to verify coverage amounts as they have the procedure and billing codes. It's not right to send me to collections for an oversight on their part and for not performing their due diligence by calling ***** due to their contract issues. They are holding me financially responsible for their lacking financial procedures and their contract dropping from 80-50% coverage.

After further review of the case the original information we received when verifying the insurance with *********** stated she had a 20% coins we did not receive the correct information that her coins was actually 50% for going outside of an ***** facility until the claim processed.  For this reason, we feel that the correct thing to do is to write off the remaining balance due of $665.58.  We have closed the account with the collection agency and have written the remaining balance off as a courtesy discount.

If I can be of further assistance, please do reach out.

    Sincerely,

    *******
