To whom it may concern, My mother passed away in June. My aunt hired a company called TACT to remove the remains that had seeped into the floor. When they found out I was next of kin they wanted me to sign their contract. I did so because they told me I wouldn't be charged for anything until after probate. Last week I received a message from ****** at TACT. He told me the insurance was mailing a check for him to the residence. I told him I was going there on July 30th and I could meet up with him on Aug 1st to give him the check and he agreed. On Aug 1st, I told him I would need a receipt. He kept wanting to know my location. I told him I wouldn't be meeting him since he wouldn't give me a receipt and I would talk to the insurance agent. Yesterday he billed me directly instead of the estate and backdated the bill to June 29 making it more than 30 days over due. If he wants to bill me directly, the insurance said they will take his name off but that is going to take some time. I still haven't gone through probate and he knows that. I don't want to accept the bill with it in past due status since this is the first time I have been billed. I'm also not sure if that verbal agreement to wait until after I go through probate makes a difference since this was something he was talking to the insurance about. I cannot cash the check before probate and cannot pay him before then. I am more than willing to just give him the check if he gives me a receipt. Please advise.
