We hit a deer on interstate 81. The police called this company to two our vehicle and they would only tow it 5 miles. They charged us $630 for 5 miles and would not tow it further.

Date of Transaction: Thursday August 17th, 2023 around 6:20am.Amount Paid to Business: 725 dollars cash for a 4.1 mile tow from **** ************, ******************** ** to ************************************************This business routinely overcharges by hundreds of dollars for tow services, will not provide receipts without forcing the customers to mail insurance information to the address of business (I called my insurance and they said that is bizarre and unheard-of). When requesting a receipt the owner became aggressively angry and defensive. My insurance company called, and he told them incorrect information to throw them off.The business is refusing to resolve the problem without meeting unrealistic and bizarre demands. This business is doing this type of thing to most everyone, a quick ****** search of the company and upon reading the reviews...something is clearly unethical here, if not flat-out illegal.Thank you for your time.

    Customer Answer

    Date: 09/07/2023

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the offer and/or response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

To whom it *** concern.  I reject this offer, as the response made by the company is extremely misleading.  Yes: I did call AAA and yes, the trooper did not want to wait for them so they did call the tow company.  That was never a point of contention.  The writing incorrectly states that I mentioned I was "in between insurance companies".  I had, and have insurance on the vehicle and I have proper documentation to prove this.  I made a point to tell the tow truck driver that I didn't have enough cell service to pull up the information on my phone at the time.  His rude demeanor and argumentative nature the entire time was unprofessional and brutish.  It was also clear that he didn't understand what I was explaining to him about my insurance, and became increasingly aggitated at my explaination which was why I didnt see the point in explaining any further and opted to pay out of pocket.  In addition to this, I was only made aware of the price halfway to my destination, after my car was hooked up without a single word from the towtruck driver beforehand about rates, or any word at all to myself or the trooper.  Not until we were halfway to the destination did he mention as well that his credit card machine was back at the shop and that if we were to turn around it would cost more money, due to longer travel time and distance...as well as a 5% upcharge.  I did not want to be charged more money to go back to the shop, given that the current total was already an unethically high price of 725 dollars.

Unlike the response from the company being 'I told him it would be 725 cash with no receipt'...there was never any mention of no receipt being offered.  That is highly suspicious and irregular in its own right, and I would have questioned that immediately.  Most likely affecting my decision to pay with cash.

I cannot speak on whatever phone call *** have been placed by anyone else before my call with the tow company later in the day asking for a receipt but when I called later to ask for a receipt, I was again met with the same bitter and disgruntled attitude as the morning.  My insurance company can attest to this, as they spoke to him that day as well.  I told him that certain information he was asking for was unusual as I didn't mention insurance during the phone call...as well as my insurance company confirming that his list of demands was  very strange and that they had never heard of such a thing in order to get a receipt before either.  Upset at me questioning why he needed those things, he simply said "boy you won't see this receipt unless you shut up and agree to my demands."  Odd that a business would act in such an aggressive and embarrassing manner.  I informed him that what the tow company was doing was at the very least unethical and at most, it was flat out illegal.  He hung up shortly after challenging this claim.  I did not hang up the phone; as the company response stated.

in addition to all of this, the photographs taken of my car were neither at the scene of the crash, or at where he dropped off my car.  We traveled directly from the scene to my house, and he left after counting the money so it is a bit unsettling to see these photos taken.  I have no idea where he found my car, or where these pictures were taken.  They were most certainly not taken the day of the accident or with my knowledge.  I would not be surprised if this company happened to see the car out in town, and knowing he didnt take the proper photos the day of, he pulled over and got pictures retroactively.  This is pretty disturbing knowing that these photos were collected at a random time without my knowledge possibly days or weeks after the incident.  This itself is unethical.

If there is any doubt in my claims, a quick search of reviews online will back up things I have said echoing years back even.

    Regards,
