      This business violated Virginia law by not giving proper (30 days) notice in raising the monthly rent of a storage unit. They provided no resolution and proceeded to blame inflation for a 17% increase. The unit has since been vacated. In addition, no evidence was provided by the business to show they properly communicated the increased price. After complaining, the business ignored all calls and refused to respond to inquiries about moving out of the unit.

      I have included the notes from their sitelink account. They did get more than 30-day notice of the increase. Customer was told that we could look at the increase and see what could be done but the said they were moving out. I called to discuss with them the rate increase but could not leave a message, so I emailed them. No response. I removed the increase; they never paid the increase. No refund is due. Let me know if you need any other info. 12/27/2024 1:45 PM      SS: Note - Scheduled rate change from 269.00 to 315.00 on 2/1/2025 Tenant scheduled rates updated  from Corporate Control Center rate import file: 2/20/2025 3:01 PM        DT: Note - Customer called very upset over the rate increase, sad they never got the notice that was emailed, I offered to contact my DM to see if I could get it reduced but they were getting pretty insulting on the phone and hung up on me, they called back and wanted me to remove their CC from auto pay and said they are moving then hung up on me again. 2/22/2025 4:28 AM        SF: Note - DM called to discuss rate increase. No answer, no way to leave a voice mail. DM emailed customer. 2/22/2025 4:40 AM        SF: Note - Scheduled rate change from 315.00 to 279.00 on 2/1/2025 Thank you, ***** *** District Manager  **** ******* *** ***** **** ***** ** ***** **********

      I have reviewed the response offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  They cannot provide evidence that they gave PROPER notice by Virginia law. There was no email, no note on the storage unit, no mailed letter, no letter to my residence, no note left on my door. No communication occurred. In fact, the emails the business does send come with links that frequently EXPIRE, without any way to retrieve the information. No such issue occurs with my current storage unit. Additionally, they never called me back, I can prove this with phone records if needed. They never emailed me back regarding my complaint. I can show two emails that were sent to the business which went unanswered. When I reviewed them, they said "contact us" at a certain email. I did this and received no answer. I encourage them to prove their position. Show me the call logs. Show me the notice. Show me the responses to my emails.
