I contracted with ***** ******* of This and That Handyman to do repairs at my rental home. He took a $1000 deposit to start work on that same day, Oct. 17. He asked that the check be written in his name. I was to provide the materials since I could get a *** military discount at ******* He said the average rate was $*** per day and that three men would be working. I gave ***** a key to the house since this would give him access; I work and could not be there to let him in and out. I had exterior doors there and bought interior doors for future work. Windows were on order. I also met with ***** and crew on Thursday Nov. 20 to pick up siding and trim. When we returned to **** **** ****. There was a large pile of trash in the front yard and he said I would have to pay extra for that removal. Since I pay for trash removal and am current with my account, I can haul to the York County dump and dump for free. This we did. He also had additional trash in the back of his pick up. I was asked for the balance since he said he would be finished that day, the 20th, I paid him. When I returned to see the finished work, I was appalled. The caulking was inadequately applied and was sloppy, the doors were not plumb and instead of cutting the opening for the door frames, they cut them to the size of the trim so there are gaps around the trim that filled with caulk, but inadequately. The rotted siding was not finished and what siding he did apply, was not done correctly. It had a tongue and groove construction and that was not done. It is uneven, plus a bump out for the laundry drain is off plumb by almost an inch and a half vertically over the course of 90". I requested to meet with him to discuss the needed resolutions and re would not meet and I then requested my key be returned and he did not reply or meet with me to return it. I must now replace the locks and find someone to correct his shoddy work. *** ******** *** is my residence. Thank you for your help.Business Response

Work
I was contacted by ***** around the week of October 10th. I scheduled a time to come and take a look in person, at the work to be done. The work do be done was at, what I was told her sick son’s home. That he could no longer live in. Nor take care of.
When I did the estimate. I was asked for a reference of an electrician. I gave a company info. Upon his assessment. He came back to me and told me to not do work for her. For she would become a problem. And that the home needed more work than she knew about. She also asked me for a plumber. For she couldn’t get the previous plumber to come back out. To complete the work they had discussed and started.
Even with all this info I had/was told.
Me being a nice person. Didn’t believe it. And decided to send an estimate anyway. During the estimate. I discussed with ***** That I would give her 3 days of work. And that me and my helper would try to get what I could get done in those 3 days time frame. And that We do not start any work tell a deposit of material cost is paid. I then emailed an estimate. And she approved the estimate.
I Wa soo start with the outside of home first. She had someone breaking into the home. So first Wa to fix the doors. And holes in siding.
She approved.
I received a deposit by check in person on October 17th. I Then started work on the 18th.
In the estimate I was to install a new front door back door. French door. Fix/replace trim boards. Or install trim boards where none were. I marked and cut the hole for the front and back door. Installed the door so drywall would be flush with door jamb. This making the inside able to be trimmed properly with drywall. I then marked and cut the siding back so the brick mold would be flush with the door jamb on the outside. With no gaps on the door jam. Front door was going from 32 to a 36in. The porch slops toward the home. For I can’t fix that problem.
And back door was 32 back to 32in. French door was to be installed where a window was present.
I then recommended we caulk all the trim around home of all gaps. From water intrusion. I would caulk with the caulking I have on my truck. I have used and trusted this caulking for many many years. Since we have been In Business since 2008.
She insisted we use the caulking she bought. So that is what we used.
We then moved on to removing a wall, window. To install a new French door. The wall was re framed with 2x4 studs. Jack studs And a header. Then, the door installed. And the wall insulation re installed. By the end of the day. I need more materials to finish the job we already started. I came to *****. And told her. I was out of materials. And we would need to buy more in the morning to finish the door/siding/ trim around that area. Also, to replaced the siding, where a hole was in the siding. from an old wood stove. In the same area of the French door. I Also told her. It would cost more due to needing more materials cost and the dump fee would be more. Due to more trash than expected. She told me we could load my truck up in the afternoon of the next day. And take it to the local dump. We’re she gets to dump for free. For being a county resident. So I agreed to do so. I did however have 2 bags of trash and a 4x4 from another job. She said it want a problem. We could just dump it with everything els. (It barely all fit in the bed of my truck)
She insisted that we meet at ****** in the morning, so she could use a ****** credit card and pay for the remainder of materials needed.
I agreed. And we meet in the morning at lowes. The same day. Once we returned to the home of work. I loaded my truck with all the trash from the siding/wall/ and old doors. Then, went back to work to complete the New siding installed around door. I then put a facia board/ corner boards/ base board Trim around perimeter of area.
At the end of day 3. I was not finished. I told ***** I would return the next day (Friday)to finish. I told her, Even though we only spoke about 3 days of work. I would do the 4th day. For no extra charge.
On Friday. Around 530 pm. We had finally
Finished everything we spoke about. We then spent around 45 min to an hour. Walking around the home. To look at all the work done. She even started crying at one point. Out of happiness. I was told.
She then approved of the work that was done. And wrote me a check for the remaining balance.
I then returned key to *****.
We discussed more work to be done to the home. And I told her I would email her an estimate for the other work to be done.
I was then contacted a week later. And was demanded by ***** to come back the next day to fix, Cracked caulking. And wrapped / not plump wall. And to return the key.
I told her. I did not have the key. It was already returned. And that I can not do anything to the wall. For I did not touch or change the wall. Just put siding and trim on an already built wall. And that i was not going to fix it for free. And that I can’t fix a wall, That is already out of level. For the hole home is out of level.
Without starting over. She demanded I fix it!
The told me about the cracked caulking. I told her I would take a look when and if I returned to do more work. For I told her to use the recommended caulking I had. But was told use what she had. I then sent 2 estimates to *****.
After being demanded to come to the home. To meet her on her time frame. I am busy. And Can not just stop what I’m doing for her.
After several Threats. With law suits.
I decided to revoke my estimates.
And refuse anymore work from *****.
I have all the pictures of before and after of all work the day of completion.
I have and am willing to provide pictures of all materials I purchased. Before meeting her at lowes.
I have pictures of the invoice she approved. dates and check numbers of completed and approved work.
