      We feel *****************, a residential contractor committed fraud under VT statute 13 VSA sub sec **** Chapter 47. As of April 2023 *** has not complied with Vermonts contractor registration.We contracted with *** to replace our front porch. Due to shoddy workmanship, behaviors on site, significant & frequent absences, not providing evidence of insurance or providing receipts for materials purchased we terminated the contract.Other reasons for termination were insufficient materials stored at the work site and inappropriate materials purchased that did not fit the scope of the project.Jays behavior and attitude changed dramatically such as when errors were pointed out he became hostile, enraged and belligerent. There was concern this behavior might escalate and become violent.*** started demanding payments sooner than originally agreed on in the contract. We complied with his demands for writing checks for a total sum of $7,300.00. *** then demanded another $1,000.00 from the remaining money owed him which was part of his final payment. This request was denied which caused him to again become enraged and belligerent and he threatened not to complete the work unless he was paid immediately. We reminded him by showing him a copy of the contract he designed that final payment was not due until the work was completed.After contract termination, *** barraged us with threatening texts re legal action threatening to *** us for 3x the final payment due. When asked to stop he didn't & told us a delivery was due the Friday after his termination. Many items order were not pertinent to the scope of work. He finally stopped harassing us after we said cease and desist threatening a restraining order against him. We now are forced to hire a new contractor to correct all errors and complete the work he never finished.
