In January 2025, we purchased a ************************ home that was set up and installed by Fecteau Homes. While we did not purchase it directly from them (a mobile home cooperative purchased and resold it to us), Fecteau Homes is responsible for servicing and warranty items through September 2025 as the local retailer. Upon moving in, we discovered that the Ecobee Smart Thermostat was removed and hidden behind our HVAC system, missing the bracket needed for installation. When we contacted Fecteau Homes, Service Manager *** ***** stated they no longer install Ecobees due to frequent service issues and that all documentation referencing it should have been removed before we moved in. This raises concerns about transparency, as the thermostat is required for compliance with the ************************** *********** Ready Home certification. After escalating the issue, a Fecteau Homes owner acknowledged the mistake and agreed to resolve it, but *** ***** later overruled this and refused to provide the thermostat or missing parts. When I pressed further, he also denied responsibility for servicing our homes warranty, despite Fecteau Homes obligation as the local retailer. We are now left without a key energy-efficient component and no clear path to address warranty concerns. Given that this mobile home project was partially funded through energy-efficiency grants, this feels deceptiveespecially in a ********** community where residents may not know to challenge these practices. I have attached email correspondence and request assistance in ensuring Fecteau Homes honors their commitment to provide the thermostat and fulfill their warranty obligations.

We delivered the home with the proper equipment to the non-profit entity, ***, that purchased it from us for resale to the person who filed this complaint. After the transfer, *** worked with Efficiency Vermont to install a heat pump in the home. The thermostat that came with the home,
from the information received by us from Efficiency Vermont, is not suitable to control the heat pump and the propane furnace that came with
together so it was removed by Efficiency Vermont's contractor for one that was compatible.

Better Business Bureau:I have reviewed the response submitted by the business and have determined that the response does not satisfy or resolve my issues and/or concerns in reference to complaint # ********. Please add your rejection comments below; if you do not provide any details, your complaint will be closed as Answered.

Unfortunately, I am not satisfied with the resolution provided and still do not have clear direction on who to contact for warranty-related issues. As the local retailer responsible for setting up and installing the home, Fecteau Homes should be able to either address warranty concerns directly or facilitate contact with the appropriate party.
Additionally, while I now understand the reasoning behind the decision to stop installing Ecobee thermostats due to service issues, this explanation could have been communicated civilly and clearly in any of the several written responses I received prior to filing this complaint. Instead, I was met with dismissive and unprofessional communication that failed to address my concerns or provide accurate information until the BBB became involved.
I believe that an apology is warranted for the companys failure to provide proper information and customer service from the outset. The lack of due diligence and poor communication I experienced should never have escalated to the level of requiring outside intervention.
At this time, there remains no clear direction on how warranty-related issues will be handled moving forward. I request further assistance in ensuring Fecteau Homes fulfills its responsibilities as the retailer responsible for the installation and setup of my home and provides a clear, actionable path for resolving any warranty-related items, should they arise.

Businesses and Customers should be civil, courteous and polite in their responses to complaints. It is important to remain professional and productive when participating in the BBB complaint process.

      Business Response

      Date: 02/25/2025

The discontent with our response is unfortunate and not warranted. We provided a clear and concise response to the complaint, backed up by information received from the foremost authority on energy efficiency in *******. While we attempt to please all customers, and our longevity and general reputation supports that, there are instances where that is simply not possible. This may be one. We consider this complaint closed.

We bought a brand new house from the fectues and as soon as we moved in we started to see some issues with the workmanship. First thing was the flooring they used, its vinyl flooring that ended up getting a hole in it. Upon talking to them they said there was not much that they could do about it since it was one big piece so we paid to get the floor replaced. There were issues with piping in the basement leaking and insulation coming from the microwave vent. If you plug the vacuum into the outlets in the garage the breaker trips. Last week while i was showering the bath tub cracked right under my feet (i attached photos). We contacted the fectues and they said sorry your waranty expired and gave me a number to some guy they recommended to replace it. i decided to go with another company and once they came out to look at the issue they told us there is no padding between the sub floor and the bathtub so with every step you take in the tub you risk it cracking. This is a huge saftey concern. i think this business needs to do a better job of building these homes and following building codes as people pay alot of money for these houses. All of the neighbors have had issues with one thing or another with this business taking no responsibilty whatsoever and i think its time they do with the houses selling for well over 400k.
