Ive been out of work and was unable to keep up payments on one of my storage units with All Purpose Storage. There was a lien placed on the unit and it was auctioned off in Dec 2024. I got a call from the auctions department an hour after the online auction began letting me know unit had sold. I didnt think to ask how much the unit sold for. I had mulitple high school year books in the unit that I expressed I was really sad to lose. *** from the auctions **** said they do try to recover thise types of personal items. She said theyd reach out to the new owner of the unit and get back to me. They never did. I got an email from a third party debt collection agency for the storage unit. ******* the auctions **** manager, left me a VM after I called asking why the bill was so high. She indicated in her VM that the unit was sold for $60. That unit had a $1000 desk I bought a year ago. Its outrageous to me that a company would only leave a unit online for an hour, taking $60 and leaving the person who just lost all those belongings with essentially the full amount. The unit was worhh atleast $2000. ****** also said in her VM that she would look into thise yearbooks. Ive heard nothing. When I was called in Dec to let me know the unit had sold *** told me they sold it to someone who frequently buys their units. Im not questioning the legality of this; they owned the unit after I failed to pay. However, they clearly lack ethics; that Ive been left with a $1133 bill is disgusting when they could have left the unit online for 24 hours or a few days which in all likelihood would have recovered the full amount. The units Ive seen auctioned online are left for days or weeks. Im not out of work because of laziness. Im unemployed due to extreme circumstances. All Purpose Storage clearly lacks ethical standards. Im well aware the bill likely wont be adjusted, I just dont want others to experience what I just did.
