I have two of their steering gears- a 1998 Dodge 3500 and more recently in my 1972 GMC *****. I had some issues with the install recently and their customer service was quick and helpful, which to me, is a lost art with so many companies. Both of my gears work fantastic and I will go to them again on my next build.

I bought a RedHead steering box for my 1995 Bronco. It was $260 free shipping, including the 10% discount. I received it, it looked great. I put it on- WHAT A PIECE OF C*** It has at least 45 degrees of play in the steering, the steering wheel at 9 oclock and 3 oclock straight across, it contantly going to 8 oclock and 2 oclock. It's all over the road. It's not even as good as the rebuilt Advance Auto steering box I bought 4 years ago for half the price. I'm surely not sending them that one as a core, I'll get a refund first. I called RedHead spoke to 2 ****, both rambled on about torque spec of the ****** arm. The first guy actually said he has other customers to take care of, after 25 minutes, well I spent $260 for the box, and $175 for the core. I'm out $435 plus tax and I have to send it back. When I asked who rebuilt the box, they answered the guys in the back. The **** on the phone have a line about ****** arms torque spec. Well the ****** arm is on there good, if I torqued it any more, it would strip the threads. It's a pressed tapered stud. The problem is there is a ton of play in it. It acts like a worn out streering box. I've been a mechanic 40 years and this steering box acts is almost as bad as the original one we took off the truck that was 15 years old. It appears that RedHead employees are just painting steering boxes and reselling them, and seeing how much money they can make, and who calls back.

Sent them a steering box to be rebuilt, nothing more. Take out existing and replace it with exactly what you took out but clean and new. When I got the box back I had my truck towed to the shop to have it installed.. ******** calls me and tells me its not original as it was. The steering box had different size steering shaft coming out, a thicker one. The existing hose he took off originally, he went to reinstall it and it didn't fit. I made contact and they told me take it off and send it back. But in the same breath, that they keep extra boxes for emergencies. (But they don't say, we'll send you the new one NOW cause we messed up too save time. Send us the other MISTAKE when you receive it) So now my ALWAYS *********** **** Scout that was towed to the shop for 200$ has 2 options. Sit outside the shop in rain and snow for two weeks till they receive it and send me a new one/ fix their mistakes and send it back.. OR spend another few hundred towing it back and forth I don't have. Had to leave it at shop no choice.. I had to order a new part to adapt to thier mistake wait for it to come. I had to have a power-steering hose made. All to fix their mistakes. They have the audacity to tell me it was a warrantee issue.. Meanwhile the box hadn't even been installed on the truck yet or operated! lol. I think what ****** me off the most was the emails and the lack of accepting that they had messed up just passing of the buck. 80$hose to fix their mistake. 55$ rag gear to fix their mistake.. $585 in storage fees for more then two weeks of taking up shop space to fix thier mistake.. Shoulda just had it towed back home I know .. and a few hundred in extra Mechanic hours trying install something not build correctly "thier mistake" . I wouldn't have a manual can opener rebuilt by these incompetent people. Find another steering box rebuilder their out there.
