A couple weeks ago, we called Baker Septic with an issue regarding a pipe that a health inspector noticed was seeping sewage into the storm drain. Baker came out and said, upon inspection, that the pipe didnt lead from our septic tank and that it would only indicate a major problem if our sewage came back up into the tub or shower and toilets. As is happening tonight, Valentines Day of 2023. Baker Septic charged us $2-300 to make a problem worse and render our home uninhabitable.

      To whom it may concern,
On Jan. 30th we were scheduled by the homeowner **** and ************************* per their request for our company to come and cap a 4 pipe.  When booking the appointment, **** reported that they are making the request based off of a visit from the ************************* at no time did Baker Septic recommend the capping service. On this visit date of the 30th Baker Septic was not hired or requested to do any inspection of the system nor did we review the system to establish what was the concern with the system.
A specific request was made to cap a pipe, Baker Septic performed the requested work to cap the pipe per the owners request.  An invoice was generated and paid by the owner after completion of the work that was requested and performed, capping the pipe.
There were no other charges to the customer than the work that was performed.
I would be happy to provide a copy of the invoice for your reference if requested.
      Thank you,
      ******

On October 4th, I contacted Baker Septic to look at my septic system and determine why the pump had stopped working. Baker sent out an employee who examined my system and told me two things: The pump was dead, and my two tanks were both nearly 100% full and needed to be pumped out. He quote me about $1,450 for a new pump and about $350 for an electrician to hook it up, plus tax. He quoted me about $575 dollars to pump out each tank, plus tax. I authorized him to pump out one tank, and told him I would think about having Baker replace the pump.Meanwhile, I checked with my house's previous owner, *************************, who is also a close neighbor. She told me that before selling the house to my husband *** and me in January of this year, they had pumped out the septic tanks; she said they only needed to be pumped out every 3 years or so. ***** also told me that her husband (an engineer) had checked the pump before selling us the house, and verified that it was in good working order. I called Baker 2 days later, told them these things, and asked for a manager to call me back. Meanwhile, I hired another septic specialist to look at the pump. He confirmed that it was fine, but just needed to fix some corroded wiring. He charged me $200. I also paid an electrician $125 to fix the wiring, for a total cost of $325, vs. the $1,950 Baker wanted to charge. The pump now works fine.I wrote to Baker on October 14 to complain about how they charged us for pumping service we didn't need, tried to sell us a new pump we didn't need, and never responded to my earlier call. We have still not heard back from them.We are retired senior citizens with little knowledge of septic systems. We relied on Baker to take good care of us, and instead they ripped us off and failed to respond to our complaints. We want a return of the $625 we paid to them, and negative feedback posted for them on your records.

Baker Septic did come out on Oct. 4th as a troubleshoot call because the alarm of the septic was going off. After some time troubleshooting the system, it was determined that we were getting inconsistent readings from the pump. We are not licensed electricians but were able to test for power in the system and found that we had a strong power reading from the panel to the j-box in the pump line but from the j-box to the pump itself that resides in the septic system the power line was not hot, indicating that there was either an issue with the wiring or with the pump itself. Because of the fact that we didnt have power to the pump we were not able to fully test the pump. To be able to test the electrical issue further we recommended that we come out with a licensed electrician, which is required by **************** Law. Baker quoted for the worst-case scenario that a pump would be needed. We always prepare a quote to include the full scenario of what may need to be done, which in this case if the wiring was not the issue it would be the pump itself that needed to be replaced. After trying to explain the further troubleshooting issues that would need to be done and the quote for the worst-case scenario of replacing the pump itself there was a discussion of the levels in the tank. The technician explained that the levels in the septic were high and that with the pump not fully working the levels will in the tank would be increasing we offered to pump the tank while onsite to give the homeowner room in the septic tank while the homeowner made a decision on what they wanted to do for further troubleshooting of the pump. The pumping again was recommended to give the customer time to make a decision without risking further issues with septic back up or not having the ability to use the septic because again the pump was not working consistently which is why the septic alarm was going off. At this time the homeowner did agree to pumping the septic tank so that they could have time to review their options and to not risk a backup of the septic system. The following day we followed up with the homeowner to schedule a time to come out with the electrician, they then informed us that they didnt want any further work. At no time did Baker Septic push the issue of services as it is always up to the homeowner what they would like to do. No quotes were given in bad faith or malice to mislead the homeowners, the quote provided was for the worst case scenario with the understanding that we would need to refer to a licensed electrician for additional troubleshooting and or pump replacement if that was what was needed. Baker Septic was not able to fully troubleshoot the system due to state law that an electrician would be needed. As for the charge the customer did receive was for ********************** the ********************** tank to avoid a septic back up, this was a clear charge and the septic was pumped in agreement with the homeowners. Baker Septic did not cause the alarm of the septic to go off on Oct. 4th we were responding to the homeowners request and approval of the work we did perform.
