On 7/10/23, "*****" with Evergreen Asphalt LLC said he had ordered too much asphalt and needed use it or lose it. ***** offered to lay asphalt on a section of our ***** sq/ft gravel driveway for $17,500. Since Court Street was being paved near our house, we assumed, or ***** implied that Evergreen was doing the asphalt work. ***** said the price/sq. ft. would be about $2.80 for the asphalt, driveway prep and taxes. The finished square foot price was $3.18.Within an hour ***** returned with 10 people and 3 trucks of asphalt which I assumed was about 30 to 35 cubic yards. The next day we saw some rough areas and texted ***** (and **** the owner) and a few days later an employee re-rolled the areas. With the call back, we still had no reason to think Evergreen was a scam. The employee promised to return to do some *******-work but that did not happen. An internet search for Evergreen Asphalt Richland, revealed a similar complaint on the BBB site. I confirmed on the ********************* site that Evergreen Asphalt Richland lost their license on 7/18/23 - eight days after our asphalt work. I texted the owner, ****, on 8/7/23, asking about the license suspension. **** tried to call me back, but I missed the call. I texted him to call me back, but I never heard from **** or ***** again. The quality of the work was the main concern since two asphalt companies for Phase 2 of our driveway project said the asphalt was thin in some areas and showed "bones" which I think are rough, coarse areas in the asphalt. On 10/6/23, we saw base gravel breaking through the asphalt. I dug out the area to determine the extent of the breakthrough and saw that there is only about 1/2-inch of asphalt covering the base gravel. I don't know if this is a localized problem or if the entire ***** square feet of asphalt is only 1/2-inch thick at the surface. ***** said we would have 2 to 3 inches of compressed asphalt which is the industry standard for a residential driveway.
