If I could leave no stars for this review, I absolutely would. We recently refinanced our home loan in May, 2022. As part of the refi, an appraiser came to our home to evaluate & appraise our home's value. My husband is white and I am black. In order to avoid discrimination from a potentially racist appraiser, we removed all of the pictures that I was in from our home ahead of our scheduled appointment. Furthermore, I was not going to be present while the appraiser conducted the appraisal, but my white husband would be. Unfortunately, the appraiser showed up one hour early and saw me leave my home, as he parked right outside, in front of our home. My husband drove up and quickly spoke to me as I was backing out of our driveway and the appraiser got out of his car to meet my husband. I left. I later learned that the first thing the appraiser said to my husband was "is that your wife," referring to me as I was leaving. My husband responded, "yes." The appraiser was in our home for about 5 minutes (despite the fact that he was conducting a full **** appraisal) and quickly left. We received his report about a week later and the value was preposterously low. The comps he used were strategically cherry picked to be purposefully further out than needed to be, he had incorrect pictures in his report, incorrect number of rooms & many more inconsistencies w/his report. We appealed his report per the lender's guidelines (but he was who we were made to appeal to - it would be his decision). We offered far better & more logical comps to no avail. He lied (and we have proof) about why he could not use the comps we offered. We decided to conduct another appraisal and sure enough the new appraisal came back tens of thousands of dollars more than his discriminatory appraisal.
