It has been 21 months since EY Contractors LLC (License no. ************* installed a new roof on my home. Since then, I have discovered water damage. I have consulted other licensed roofing contractors who confirmed that the water damage is due to poor workmanship and incorrect products used and likely to result in further water damage throughout the roof as the roof ages, due to overdriven nails and that the nails appear not to be corrosion resistant as is required by code and was on the contract from EY. EY Contractors LLC provided me with a warranty backed be GAF (roofing manufacturer), which requires ** to address any workmanship issues directly if they arise within the first 2 years following installation. I have requested EY Contractors LLC to inspect and repair my roof to address current water damage and complete preventative work (remediate overdriven nails, and incorrect nails used and blow through of the shingles, which I made them aware of when the installation was in progress) to prevent further damage to my roof and home. They agreed to come out Friday 1/17, however canceled and have otherwise not made any attempts to inspect or repair. If they are unwilling to address this as is agreed in the warranty, I would like a refund of what I've paid for the roof so that I can have my roof reinstalled correctly to code and manufacturer requirements to last through the warrantied period.

    Dear BBB Representative,

Thank you for reaching out regarding the complaint filed by ******* on January 18, 2025.

Id like to provide some background and clarify the situation:

This roof was installed nearly two years ago and came with a GAF Golden Pledge Warranty, ensuring the homeowner is covered for any necessary repairs. During the initial installation, we went above and beyond to address all concerns raised by the homeowner, including re-installing and adjusting multiple areas of the roof to their satisfaction, despite the project exceeding normal costs and timeframes.

Recently, the homeowner reported leaks following a cyclone bomb, which caused significant damage across the region. The homeowner has since opened a claim with *** under their warranty, and *** has assigned a supervisor to inspect the roof. Once this inspection is completed, *** will determine whether the issue is related to material defects, installation, or weather-related damage, and will resolve the matter accordingly.
We understand the frustration the homeowner is experiencing, but the warranty process requires GAFs inspection and approval to proceed. Unfortunately, the homeowner has chosen to attack our company online instead of waiting for the warranty process to run its course. This includes sharing misleading information and images that do not accurately represent the current state of the roof or the repairs already completed.

We remain committed to resolving the issue per GAFs guidelines and ask that the customer allow the warranty process to continue without further unwarranted attacks on our reputation.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. If you require further information, I am happy to provide it.

    Complaint: 22828082

I am rejecting this response because:

First, EY Contractors LLC did not go above and beyond during installation. They clearly installed the roof with poor workmanship, cutting corners wherever possible. At the time of install, EY Contractors LLC did not take action until I engaged *** via the *** claims process in order to instigate action from EY contractors LLC. They otherwise were ignoring my contact, as they have been doing over the last 6 weeks for the current issues. The project exceeded their costs and timeframe due to their poor workmanship, corner cutting and use of lesser quality materials than agreed.

EY Contractors LLC is attempting to correlate this to the bomb cyclone, however, they have not inspected the roof themselves, drawing that conclusion is laughable. There is no wind driven damage to the roof. The water intrusion and poor workmanship are not caused by the bomb cyclone.

The *** inspector came today, 2/21/25. He and I walked the roof together during his inspection so he could show me first hand what his finding are and they are worse than I initially observed. He identified that in every area he inspected across the whole roof that nails have been completely blown through shingles. He also identified improperly installed flashing at the vents (missing ice and water shield), shingling at the valleys done incorrectly (cause of the leaks, from his observation), underlayment and shingles laid incorrectly, causing rippling and incorrectly installed ridge vent that is buckling in multiple areas. In addition, EY Contractors LLC did not follow manufacturer instruction to use cap nails/staples when installing underlayment, and instead of removing the old wall to roof flashing prior to installing new, added flashing on top of existing. In addition, they did not properly re-install bathroom vent ducting to bathroom vents.

I have in no way attacked EY Contractors LLC online. I have posted factual reviews of my experience working with them, showing the poor workmanship that required correction and their lack of response when called on to honor their obligations under the warranty. Whether they corrected some of the issues identified earlier, does not change the fact that those issues existed, and are a clear example of their poor workmanship.

My complaint still stands and I stand firmer after the *** inspector confirmed my observations of the poor workmanship is accurate. Per the *** inspection, my whole roof has nails blowing through all of the shingles (shingles are not attached to my roof sheathing due to the blow-through), shingles not properly spaced, shingles at the valleys not correctly installed, vent flashings incorrectly installed, ridge vent incorrectly installed, wall to roof flashings incorrectly installed, bathroom vents incorrectly installed, underlayment incorrectly installed. These are all results of poor workmanship and will not last anywhere near the length of the warranty due to the poor workmanship. The only real solution is removal of the current roof and reinstallation per manufacturer and code specifications. This complaint should remain open until my roof is replaced or full reimbursement for a new roof that meets manufacturer and code specification is provided.

    Sincerely,

    ******* ***

Following the recent *** inspection, some installation issues were identified with the roof in question. As a result, EY Contractors, in coordination with ***, will be proceeding with a full roof replacement to resolve the matter.

We have already reached out to the homeowner and are currently awaiting their approval to proceed with the project. Once we receive their confirmation, we will move forward with scheduling and completing the replacement as per GAFs recommendations.

Please let us know if any further information is required. We appreciate your time and assistance in this matter.

    Best regards,
    EY Contractors Team

I am rejecting this response because:

EY Contractors continues to be evasive and has not answered questions regarding the scope of work to be completed, which is necessary to prevent repeated damage and issues identified during the original installation. I responded to EY Contractors last week and again contacted them this morning and they have failed to respond.

    Sincerely,

March 20, 2023: *********** left an advertisement on my doorknob even though I have a "No Soliciting" sign on the door. Perhaps seems like a trivial complaint but maybe BBB.org is the only way to stop companies from littering. They should use the **** like most companies.
