In December 2022 I took my 2010 **** Fusion to Precision Tune and Lube of Marysville for a simple oil change. I purchased the Fusion in September 2020 with ******* miles on it and have changed my oil as a DIY since December 2022. My car had 175k miles on it and I keep records of Oil Changes in MyCarfax Garage. I have performed over ************************************************** December of ***************************** for an oil change and *****, the manager, informed me that my oil plug was stripped and needed to be repaired. I told him of my history and stated his employee needs retraining in adequate torque. He said they would put an oversize bolt in it and then gave me a quote of $800 to repair a mistake THEY had made. On 1/29/2024 I took my car again to Precision Tune of Marysville as my wifes car is under warranty and I have had it serviced since purchase at Precision. Once again, ****, the manager of the day, informed me that my **** Fusion oil plug has been stripped and they couldnt secure it with a new bolt. She said they would get Teflon tape and then told me it would be $800 to repair the oil pan. I have changed the oil in over 115 cars since ownership and have NEVER stripped an oil plug bolt. Cross threading and overtightening is fault of the installer. I would ask Precision Tune to not only replace my oil pan but also retrain technicians. I can prove my service history in all my vehicles in Carfax Garage maintenance. How can I have over 30 oil changes and never strip a bolt, but I take my car 3 times to Precision and 2 times they strip an oil plug bolt. In a court of law, it is based off the preponderance of the evidence. Precision Tune is completely at fault and I ask for restitution.

I am writing to respond the complaint issued by Grey ***** regarding the oil pan on his 2010 **** Fusion.

I understand his frustration but take exception to the fact that we caused the oil plan to strip. Our records show we have performed three oil changes since November of 2022 (174749mi). That particular oil change is documented that the drain plug would no longer go in and seal. The drain plug we removed was already an oversized plug.  There was an option of a double oversized plug which we offered and client accepted,   and then notified the client that this was a temporary fix and he needed to plan for replacing the oil pan itself.

The next oil change (******mi) in August of 2023 we were still able to reuse the double oversized drain plug.  Then January of this year the client had us perform an oil change again (******mi) and the drain plug no longer tightened. It had brought out threads from the existing oil pan. Since there is no drain plug made past the double oversize option it is now imperative that the pan be replaced.  We were able to make a temporary repair using a Teflon tape as the client did not want to leave the vehicle and have us replace the oil pan.

This is an older vehicle with over ******mi and we have performed only three oil changes, the bulk of the oil changes have been performed elsewhere or by *************, as he relayed it to me.  If we had been the only place to service his car then I can see the argument being made, but as shown, most of the work has been done elsewhere.

We have been in business here over 30 years and perform oil changes everyday along with many repairs from fluid services to engine replacements. We pride ourselves on helping clients with their automotive needs and getting them in and out in a timely fashion.

    Regards,

I am rejecting this response because:

I can procvide documented oil change history of my vehicle since purchased in 2020 when the car had only 124k miles. I can document more than 8 oil changes with no stripping of the oil plug bolt. I can also document complaints filed by past customers with Precision ********* where customers state the technician stripped their oil plug bolt, or overtightened it. Yes you are correct in that the bolt was stripped in my first visit to your business. NOTE: That is the first mention ever where the bolt is stripped. Then no comments were made on the return visit in August 2022 in the tech notes. Then upon a visit January 29 **** the techician states the bolt is stripped again. The desk clerk advised me it would be $800 at MY EXPENSE to repair and offered no apologies or offer to repair due to their mistake. My documented history of oil changes on my 2010 **** Fusion and the provided documents of over 100 plus past vehicles of mine being serviced, as well as online posted complaints from past customers, I will take my chance in small claims court. Many people in the clerical professions do not understand the importance of tolerances in the automotive industry. I will make my case and I will win. It was my desire to simply have an offer from Precision Tune and Lube to repair my vehicle at their expense. Thus stated by both desk clerks, the cost was estimated at $800. I will be asking for this amount in Snohomish County Court.

    Sincerely,

    *******************

    The last complaint nails it.

I am seeking $800 in repairs as both desk managers have provided the same estimates OR damage to my vehicle repaired to my car completed by a licensed certified facility
