On November 28, 2022 I was in a vehicular collision where I was deemed not at fault. Van Law Firm located in Suite ******************************* was hired to handle my case. From the very beginning there were multiple turnovers in that office in the case. Van Law Firm was extremely difficult to keep in contact with. From not returning phone calls, to a new random person handling my case. Leading to me paying out of pocket a lot of medical bills that were supposed to be handled by Van Law Firm. I continued on with this company stuck in my contract, unable to change law firms. At least four people mishandled my case. Towards the end of my case in October of 2023, I finally heard back. I was supposed to get ****** US dollars. I waited until December I still hadn't received my settlement check. I had called as well as texted multiple times to find out where it was. I finally got a response that they weren't ready to release the money yet but could give me a partial check. Needing it to pay for bills and basic necessities I accepted. I thoroughly read through the documentation verifying that none of the credit would be subtracted in the end. I received a check for 7000 US dollars that I received the check around a month later. Without notice I received a second check for 5000 US dollars a month and a half later. This came without documentation or explanation. I tried to contact Van Law Firm multiple times to no avail. I found through a previous employee that this was supposedly the final check of my case and that the case was closed.

    Business Response

    Date: 03/12/2024

    Good afternoon,

We have reviewed *********************** case and the complaint received. Here is our response:

Like with every single of our clients cases, we send a financial disbursement sheet for their review and signature, prior to releasing funds (and mailing checks).

We sent *********************** two documents to review and sign, each containing the breakdown of the settlement amount and the amount of each check he received. Aside from Kaleb signing those two settlement disbursement forms, Van Law Firm communicated with ***** via phone calls and in writing with updates on his case.

Attached here, you will find copies of the settlement disbursement sheet that Kaleb signed; copies of checks that were mailed (to Kaleb) and cleared; and screenshots of text messages between the client and the law firm. ***For confidentiality, we have redacted some information since we do not have permission from Kaleb to provide that to you.

There is no reason why Kaleb should be confused or think he was not notified of the process of his case. We believe communication is very important and we take it very seriously.

    Thank you!
