I have never been so humiliated by a financial institution as I was at the WSECU Federal Way branch. After depositing a refund check for a returned medical device, ********************** initially made $2,000 available to me. Later that day, when I attempted to withdraw the remaining amount that was already released, a ***** arbitrarily decided (without approval from the manager or anyone else) to place my funds back on hold. Without any explanation, I was treated like a criminal and denied access to my own money--despite being a customer in good standing with a car loan and credit card in perfect payment history. To make matters worse, I was refused access to the manager when I asked for help. This experience was not only deeply insulting but also put me in a difficult position financially as I rely on these funds for medical expenses. I would strongly caution anyone considering banking with WSECU to think twice about trusting them with your money. I've had one speeding ticket my entire life, and to be treated as though i'm somehow doing something wrong and to arbitrarily reverse funds that i'm literally counting on for life saving prescriptions, as i'm standing there and say "ya, ... we're not going to be able to do that today" I am still in shock, how dare someone who knows nothing of me judge me in that way. I chose WSECU because of its reputation for service and integrity, but this experience has severely shaken my trust in the institution. I have lived up to my end of our agreement and made my payments on time, every month for my car 659 dollars a month and my credit card, and IM TREATED THIS WAY? Im disappointed, truly.Washington State Employees Credit Union

My husband and I had a troubling experience with WSECU. We submitted a form for a joint HELOC via the WSECU website. When I previously applied for home loans in the past, the bank or credit union mortgage officer always contacted me to chat about my application and needs before pulling our credit and processing the application, but WSECU did not contact us before pulling our credit. We only learned that they pulled our credit via notifications we received from multiple credit monitoring services. Within a day or two, we were emailed a counteroffer by WSECU and were disappointed that they did not contact us to chat about it. We replied by email with an explanation of our needs and concerns about their counteroffer. However, our reply was completely ignored, and their only response was to dryly ask for the information requested to process the original counteroffer. This made it clear that our needs did not matter. However, the most troubling was that to approve the ****** WSECU requested a copy of our marriage certificate! I felt that requesting our marriage certificate was highly discriminatory and outrageous because both of our names are on the title of our home, and our credit and income made us qualify for their counteroffer. Importantly, I shared this experience with my parents and other straight couples that have taken out joint home loans, and no one mentioned that they were asked for a marriage certification! As a gay couple and as people of color, it is already difficult to navigate business and financial transactions due to biases, so we were shocked that WSECU wanted us to prove that we were married in order to get a home loan. We decided that we would absolutely not take their offer, and we left it. We feel strongly that WSECU lending practices added extra, unnecessary steps/barriers for us to get a home loan, and were thereby discriminatory in nature. We strongly recommend that gay couples, people of color, and allies avoid WSECU.Washington State Employees Credit Union

My husband and I applied for a HELOC loan online, in July 2024. WSECU ran our credit before contacting us and made us a counteroffer based solely on the minimal information in their application. No one ever contacted us to tell us what we needed to prepare for, or what to expect before starting the process of running our credit. Our credit is 750+, our payment history is spotless, our savings are greater than our debt and our income is higher every year. The agent we dealt with had terrible listening and communication skills with minimal verbal contact. She was dry and impersonal the few times we spoke with her (twice for less than 5 minutes) and we felt like we were just a number the entire time. She replied dryly via email and phone and only at the end of the day so that any reply from us would remain unanswered until the next day before closing, again. She offered less than we wanted, without explanation, even though they valued our home much higher, and she never acknowledged anything I would communicate to her about our assets or savings to find out if it would help us apply for the amount we wanted. She would just email us for more income information, never acknowledging this. It seems she would ignore that part and would continue to ask us for more income information, never mentioning or at least letting us know if that information would help WSECU get a full picture of our net worth. Our entire experience felt impersonal and robotic. It felt like they never listened and gave us a "take it or leave it" offer without discussing how to better our chances of getting the amount we wanted to borrow. I couldn't help but feel they were being biased based on the name on the application. If you want to deal with dry, unfriendly people with poor listening skills, who will ignore specific questions and make decisions based on little information and without working with you to improve your chances, then WSECU is the place for you.A. The strangest, and probably illegal part, is that the mailed copy of the offer said they needed a copy of our marriage certificate. We do have it filed with the **** County recorder, but I don't understand why they need it to prove we are married when we are both applying together and have great credit. I seriously think the way we were treated by this specific individual was deliberate, as she would ignore and not even acknowledge the other information we mentioned we were willing to provide in order to better our chances. If it wasn't needed she could have just said so and explained why, but her demeanor spoke for itself. She didn't want us as clients. Maybe because we are a gay couple or maybe because we're Hispanic. Whatever the reason, we were treated badly and felt ignored.Washington State Employees Credit Union
