Skills construction gave me an estimate for ********** the contract specified that the job would be done within 124 working days. the job took them a 1 year to complete not only did they not keep the deadline but took ********** from my bank loan and now ******************* the owner just keeps telling me that there was other expenses not listed on his estimate. **** also made me pay an extra ******** to re do the island top because he had it done his way and not the way my wife and I had originally asked for. They took the roofing off from our house and during that time we had about a week with rain and water kept coming inside our house over night. Last winter they left us the entire winter with a plywood for an exterior wall, my electric bill was not very good. He keeps say that is only because of material delay which it wasn't true because the trusses were never order till the framing was done. There was days when nobody would show up I had to keep asking when would they coming back. Everyday we would come home after work and my wife and I would have to clean the entire house because they would not plastic the working area. Bottom line they shouldn't be in business I think. A contractor that keeps changing and charging whatever he fills like not keeping in mind the original estimate in my opinion is ripping people off. Please help me get the extra money back since my wife and I will be paying in our mortgage for a long time on top of the interest rates.

    Business Response

    Date: 12/01/2022

In response to ******************** Complaint. Some of what he is saying is true, but he seems to be leaving out information to strengthen his case. I did have to wait until after the walls were framed in to order the trusses. I was advised by the ********* It being a remodel/addition there was a chance that the trussed might have been too tall. So, to ensure correct fit we had to wait.  We did get hit with some bad weather that caused some water to penetrate the house, but we took care of the damage (at no cost to homeowner). This also, added some delays to the project. The weather is unexpected, and I have no control over it. There was materials delay, but not just on this project, or for me only. This issue has been going on throughout the industry.  We order material when we need to and hope to get it when we are told it will arrive. This is a remodel/addition sometimes we open up a can of worms, as they say, and extra cost is unavoidable.  During the bad weather, several times I offered ******************** and his family a hotel for them to stay in, at my cost to them. He refused it every time. I fail to see how getting a high interest loan with high payments is my fault, that is strictly the homeowners business and responsibility. In addition to his utility bills. Despite that, in order to help ********************, meet deadline for his bank loan. I had to furnish and install a temporary kitchen (cabs, quartz countertop, plumbing, electrical) 2 times. To finalize his loan and house appraisal. At this point the job was substantially completed and the final inspection from the city was finalized. This was a 20k+cost I paid for and didnt charge the customer to keep him happy. At this point he had a fully functional kitchen.  Once the right cabinets came in (3 months later). I came back removed the temporary kitchen and installed the new one with all the appliances, fixture, countertops, etc. We did all we could to keep ******************** happy but there are some people that dont want to be happy no matter what you say, do, or give them.  Despite being a heavy financial burden to my company and increased stress, I kept my word on finishing up the project as I promised. It is unfortunate that the project took longer than expected, but again his project was completed, and the customer remains unhappy after all I did to help him out.  This is a very unprofessional and uncalled for complaint and my company and myself dont deserve this.  We are proud to deliver great quality and we hope to please every customers construction needs and we have never had a customer complaint, especially for going the extra mile to help them out.
