In June 2023, I hired In the Light Construction Management LLC to build out a kitchen pantry and exterior deck at my home in *********. More than one year later, the kitchen pantry and exterior deck have made zero progress across the board: in design, material purchase, and scheduling/beginning of construction. I also learned on June 3, 2024 that a permit for the exterior deck was never even made to the city of *********. I sent a certified demand letter on July 5, 2024 requesting a refund of both deposits made on June 11 and 14, 2023 for the kitchen pantry ($3,500) and balcony deck (the majority of a $27,899.19 deposit) AND the delivery of materials purchased (from a $2,300 deposit I made on November 23, 2023 for the balcony deck materials) along with the receipt OR the full refund of the materials amount. My requests for a design plan of these two projects were ignored, until I was told in June 2024 that the sketch (that I'd never seen) needed to be re-done and that measurements needed to be taken. Not once did I see a legitimate design plan for either project. Furthermore, I paid $2,000 to In the Light on September 20, 2023 and a $3,546 balance on a patio pour. The patio pour was separate from the exterior deck contract as it is not listed on the contract. Contrary to In the Light's false claims, no work for the exterior deck ever begun. They never even got a permit! To date, I have never seen the materials, nor even pictures of the materials, although I have requested such numerous times. If any materials have been purchased in the past for either project, these should be delivered to my home for future use and I should receive the receipt. Small, unrelated tasks volunteered by In the Light in order to secure OTHER projects were not part of ANY contract. I should not have to forfeit the extensive deposits I have made for them to be unjustly enriched for work they never started or did at all, nor for nonexistent materials "invested."

BBB, please proceed. I have continued to reach out to the contractor for mediation and resolution of my complaint and have made no progress on this matter. I believe she runs a fraudulent business in which she takes hard-earned money from unwitting customers and abandons their projects (some without even getting a permit) either before or during the fulfillment of the contract, and then unjustly enriches the business by breach of contract and refusing to return the money, declining to respond to good faith attempts to communicate, and keeping money her business has not earned. I have continued to reach out to the contractor through multiple demand letters and she has not responded. Please kindly continue to process my claim.

Date of Transaction- 07/13/2022 Amount we paid - $900 advance Details of the work - Repair vent hood exhaust system, install new microwave, remove dead corner cabinet, install an active cabinet.Dispute - Day 1 : ******** came in and said that the project is not as simple as expected as is going to be more work even though they had done pre inspection of the site couple of times before.Day 2 : We had an agreement, they came in and started the work. Installed the bottom portion of the vent. In the process they broke the cabinet which was on top of the vent. Upon asking to inspect the vent, they mentioned it is not required (The reason we wanted to install it properly is to avoid a fire hazard and not checking the vent can lead just to that). Then they started installing the microwave and broke the top mounting s**** unit in the process. Later they said that it was a manufacturing defect and they left. While cleaning up the debris from their work, we noticed that they broke the burner grate on top of the gas range. We reached out to the microwave manufacturer i.e ******* and they inspected and said that the top mounting s**** unit was broken during installation because the installers tried to put screws at an angle since they had not put holes in the right place of the cabinet. Hence ******* wont be covering it under warranty. We have been trying to reach out to the owner. (****) since a couple of weeks now but to no avail. Now we are left with broken microwave, cracked bruner grate, broken cabinet and a vent which was never tested and can possibly lead to fire hazard.NOTE- We are requesting a full refund of the advance or the cost of damages whichever is higher because of the inconvenience caused.(Still an inconvenience)
