Tonight, for my birthday dinner, we remembered that the Swinging Doors at least used to offer a free steak dinner on one's birthday. We then checked their website and, upon seeing that the main page still advertised a free steak dinner on your birthday in bold letters, decided that as it was on the website, it must still be offered. After ordering drinks, we were informed that this was no longer offered and had not been offered in roughly three years. When I brought up that it was on the website, the server informed me that they have asked management numerous times during the past 3 years to change the site to stop this from happening, yet management has continued to refuse to do so. I can only be left to believe that they have left it up knowing that it is there, untrue and causing issues because they benefit from people coming in who stay despite being informed it is not accurate, as we did. I feel this is an extremely dishonest business model. I also feel for the wait staff, who have to deal with angry customers. Our poor waitress had clearly had to deal with this numerous times, and likely with very angry customers. I was kind to her as I know this is completely out of her control, and she seemed grateful for that. I also found it not great business to not at the very least provide something, like comping my drink to try and make up for the inconvenience. To be honest with you, we are on a rather tight budget, and what made going there tonight within our budget was the plan that we would be paying for two meals instead of three. I hope that the Swinging Doors will be required to update their website so they do not continue to fleece unsuspecting customers. I have worked on websites, I know how simple it is to update it and I can't imagine that it is that difficult or cost-prohibitive for them. I would think that angering customers would be far more expensive in the long run.

    Hello *******,                                                                                                          5/23/23

I received your message online last week about the free birthday steak dinner and responded hoping you would call so I could make it right with you. Today the Better Business Bureau reached out to us to deliver the same message in letter form. First of all, Im so sorry you felt we had been dishonest about our former free steak dinner offer. Please accept our apology and this gift certificate included for a steak dinner on **.
If I could also explain how this happened it would make a little more sense. As they were for everyone, the ***** years were really tough on this family-owned restaurant. We did our best to keep all of our employees, even when we were forced to shut down. Some tough decisions had to be made, and eliminating the free birthday steak dinner was one of those decisions. We were so busy trying to figure out take-out only,open-air dining, 25% capacity, sanitizing everything, putting barriers between booths, etc. we completely missed the line on our website that advertised the steak promotion. As customers and employees brought the ads to our attention (it was on billboards, television, radio, print media, and unfortunately the home page of our website) we quickly changed them or took them down so as not to deceive anyone. This winter the platform that we use for our website called Beaver Builder crashed and our IT guy had to upgrade to a newer version. In doing so, the old home page got installed and once again the free birthday steak dinner line was on there. It wasnt until I got your first review that I realized that fact and went to the back end and removed it again. Because you took the time to voice your frustration, it was brought to my attention and saved others from thinking we still offered the free steak.
Thank you again for your feedback
