      On January 10, 2025, my wife and I were racially profiled while visiting a grocery store in *********While walking through the store, we stopped at several sample counters. I picked up a pack of crackers and cheese but ultimately put it back. As we exited, we were approached by a security guard named ****** ****, who demanded to know what I did with the crackers. I calmly explained that I returned them and even offered to walk with him to the counter to confirm. He claimed he had already spoken to the woman there. I then opened my small bag, voluntarily, to show him there was nothing inside.After we exited the store, we waited for our ride. Mr. **** came outside and continued to monitor us. When I asked for his name and informed him I would be filing a report, he told us to leave the premises. We asked why, reminding him we were paying patrons who had done nothing wrong. He repeated the demand without justification. When we declined, he threatened to call the police on us.We were harassed, followed, and treated as threatsnot because of anything we didbut because we are Black.The stores Security Director later responded to our complaint, stating the interaction was based on specific observations and that such incidents happen routinely with their diverse customers. But no one else in the store was stopped or accused. The guard detailed every part of the store we walked through, confirming we were profiled from the moment we entered.He followed us outside. He stood guard to make sure we didnt re-enter. He allowed a bystander to approach us aggressively with vulgaritieswhile store staff did nothing. We werent treated like customers. We werent treated like human beings.We were treated like criminalssimply for existing in our skin.This is why we speak up. This is why we wont be silent. Because we matter.
