Because I am disabled and have several chronic illnesses, including stage 3 liver failure, my insurance allows me a benefit that includes help around the house. Because of this, I was using Visiting Angels as a care provider to help me around the house once per week. This helped lighten my load a little bit during trying times. Visiting Angels had been helping me since early August of 2024. In mid-October of 2024, I got a call out of the blue from Lydia in the Oshkosh office saying that they were going to discontinue my care because I wasn't doing enough visits per week. I explained to Lydia that I only had so many visits allowed through insurance to get me through to the end of the year. For that reason, I was only willing to do one visit per week. According to Lydia, their minimum was one visit per week. Therefore, I didn't see an issue with this. That's what I was already getting.
Lydia pressed to get me to do at least two visits per week. I refused. We ended the call as she was going to do some additional checking on her end. The next day, I received a voicemail from Lydia stating that they were going to discontinue my care because I was not reaching their minimum. I find this absolutely insane, because they had been caring for me since August. It seemed like just a bullying tactic to get more visits and more money out of me.
Though the caregivers were always kind, respectful, and caring, I find these extortion tactics from their office to be absolutely disgusting. And to just end my care with a cold, uncaring voicemail is pretty cruel. Visiting Angels? More like NON-visiting DEMONS if you ask me. Steer clear!

Thank you for sharing your concerns. We’re happy to hear you found our caregivers kind, respectful, and caring! And you indicate that you found the service we provided to be very satisfactory. In fact, you did not want the visits to end. We have weekly ‘minimums’ for various business reasons. At times we may start providing services below our minimum if we have an expectation that the schedule will grow as the client sees the benefits from our service. We are disappointed we had to end our services with you. We agree it is usually better to talk in person to clients about situations like this. We wish you success in finding an agency that can fulfill your needs.

couldn't come on Monday but could make up on Sunday. I reemphasized that she shouldn't come at all. After a week in Skilled Nursing, it became clear that Mom would be staying there. Visiting Angles charged us for the week Mom was in Skilled Nursing and the next two weeks to finish the contract. The result--the charged Mom nearly $2000 dollars for 10 hours of questionable care.
