I purchased a brand new Honda Pioneer 700 from here. I was on site when it was delivered, and noticed that when the delivery ****** went to start it, it seemed to start quite hard, and this was in 70 degree temperatures. I had it for a couple weeks, drove it for a bit, and it always started rough. When it came to below freezing temperature, it would crank and crank, then finally it sputtered, and I needed to keep the starter engaged to get it to start, which is horrible on the engine, and starter. At this point, I had been using all the fuel the dealership had provided with the Pioneer, which I later found to be 87 octane. I drove it for a couple more miles and added some fresh 91 octane, probably around a gallon or so, that I purchased in ************, without ethanol. It still started the same, and at that time I contacted the dealer, and spoke with people there. Advised them that the ******* just never ever started properly, and when it came to below freezing temps, it was almost impossible for it to start. They questioned my fuel of choice, which I told them I put in at least ************* higher, and preferably without ethanol. The first ****** I spoke with advised that "the new machines liked the lower octane, 87 in particular, and also liked the ethanol." I told him that the machine always started rough, and never did it seem to start normal. I was then transferred to a woman, who I later found out is the service manager, and had to explain the issue with her as well. She agreed to look at it, after agreeing that the fuel, especially around a gallon of 91 octane that I may have added to a 10 gallon tank, would not have effected the fuel in the tank. The *** was picked up, and more than 2 weeks later, and several phone calls from me to them, as they did not give any updates on what they found, or what the issue was, they finally returned the Pioneer. I noticed they returned my Pioneer with less then a quarter tank of fuel, and damaged the hook on my plow.

    Business Response

We addressed the customers concerns in accordance with the manufacturers recommendations. During the units time with us, we made multiple attempts to communicate, and our store provided all services at no cost to the customer.
Some fuel consumption during testing is normal, however, it is possible that it was not filled back to its amount which is an genuine and honest mistake. The unit was determined to start properly based on our diagnostics. The winch and plow were not part of the service, and we have no record or reason to believe they were damaged during the visit.
After the unit left our facility, we received no further contact or notification of the customers continued concerns until we received a review and the BBB letter. We encourage the customer to reach out directly so we can work toward a resolution.

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Powersports Company did not attempt to relay any information to me regarding the service of my ***, not once, and it was me who (over a 2 week period) reached out to them to have some sort of clue as to what was going on.  In addition, I was being put under the assumption, from the service manager, that I was going to be charged for the service, or lack there of, for what was being done to my ***, based on my fuel choice, which was proper, and minimal, based on the manufactures' owner manual, which clearly states that fuel with an Octane reading of 86 or above, and it also states that fuel without ethanol is appropriate. It further states that fuel with ethanol is approved as long as the octane rating is above 86.  The *** did not start properly, and cranked and sputtered excessively when trying to start in cold temperatures.  But the machine also starts very hard at temperatures well above freezing.  The business states that it doesn't do any of these things, which is a bold face lie.  In the "Repair Order Invoice", the business also states these lies, along with them adding "10 gallons" of fuel to the machine.  The picture I showed previously would state otherwise, as the fuel tank capacity is just under 10 gallons with the reserve added to it.  Since getting the machine back,  I have added approximately 8 gallons of 91 octane fuel, with no ethanol, to the machine, and it appears to be starting quite a bit better.   Also, I am not going to reach out to the business to fix this problem, as they never addressed the problem to begin with, left me with approximately 8 gallons less of fuel then when I saw my *** last before they picked it up, and my "U" bolt wasn't damaged, to the point of nearly snapped, before they picked it up either.  My *** is left at my parents' house, and my dad watched as the gentleman who picked up my ***, tried to drive it up on the trailer first.  He said the gentleman couldn't get it up driving forward, so this person had to back it on.  What are the chances he over lifted the plow, trying to get it up high enough so he could drive it on?  Only one person for sure knows, and I was never told why or reimbursed for what was damaged.  All I can say is, that my "U" bolt wasn't bent at all before it was picked up to be looked at by Powersports Company, the *** started horribly before and after they picked it up, and I had a full tank of fuel in it.  One last thing worth mentioning about the fuel issue.  In the owners manual, from the manufacturer, it states "If you notice any undesirable operating symptoms, try another service station, or switch to another brand of gasoline."  For future reference, as Powersports might have bad fuel which they are using.

We are willing to work with the customer. Do you have any suggestions that would help us close this matter? We can compensate the customer for their fuel expense, and if need be, replace the damaged piece on the plow. Is there anything outside of that you would recommend?

    Customer Answer

I accept Powersports' willingness to pay for the gas, and the damaged "U" bolt.  The total of which, with my small amount of labor, would be $50.  They can send a check addressed to me, and it can be sent to my address on file.
