    I hired this painting contractor to power wash, scrape/remove old flaking paint and then stain my deck. I stressed that the prep work to remove all peeling paint was extremely important to me and main reason for hiring a professional. ***** assured me that it would be done and I accepted their bid in the amount of $1720.00.

    In late August 2022, ***** and his son Luke power washed, spent 1/2 day removing the bare minimum of flaking old paint and proceeded to simply apply stain over the majority of the flaking paint. When I was presented with the finished product, I was very disappointed and voiced that to *****. The old flaky stain was bubbling underneath the fresh coat. He refused to accept responsibility for a shoddy job, claimed ‘miscommunication’ and assured me that the paint job would last two to three years.

    The new stain failed almost immediately and early Spring 2023 it became clear that my deck was now in worse shape than before. Boards had not been allowed to properly dry before staining and were now staring to rot away. Less than six months later, stain peeled off in strips, exposing moist wood underneath and simply wore off on parts.

    I had to hire someone else to completely scrape and sand my deck and then reapply three coats of stain.

    I contacted Soppa’s Painting, sent photos of the failed stain and for a refund. They refused to accept any responsibility and instead argued with me.

    From the beginning of the estimate for this project we explained in detail the steps that were necessary to complete this service with a successful result. The owner was aware of the poor condition and deteriorated wood of the deck areas prior to us beginning. She admitted that her ex husband had done an improper job. Our recommendation was to power wash/ strip/ sand/ and stain the entire surface. The price for that was not acceptable to the owner. She made the decision to accept our bid to power wash,scrape, and stain as it was more affordable for her. There was no guarantee for length of durability or how long it would hold up due to the previous issues stated above. We completed the work as per our written contract which was agreed upon by the owner. She chose the direction that she wanted to go and the wear and long term results were unsatisfactory because of her choice, not our work or procedures.
