I rented a small unit for 70.00 per month for 4 months while I completed an in town move. I moved out of the unit on 3-26-2023. I did not advise them in advance because the opportunity to move the last few items out came suddenly and I took advantage of it because I did not want to pay another months rent. When I called to tell the owner I was vacating the unit, they immediately wanted to charge an additional month due to not notifying them 10 days IA. I said this was unfair as I never asked for a refund on the remaining week of March, knowing it would take them time to re-rent. I was hoping to avoid paying an additional month. It would have been easier to say I was moving out on April 5th, pay for April and get a refund for the balance of April. But that would entail lying and I am not a liar. Badger State has a legal way to steal from their customers who deal honestly with them. And they take advantage of it. Charge me a penalty, but not an entire months rent. This is usurious.

*** was a wonderful tenant of ours. We have a standard storage rental agreement that requires only 10 days notice prior to the end of the month to vacate. Most storage facilities require a full 30 days notice, we even sent *** screenshots showing other company's policies. It specifically says in the rental agreement that if proper notice is not given they need to pay for the following month, they can also continue to use that storage the following month if they wish. In this case we explained the rental agreement and offered to refund *** any balance if we can re-rent the unit. We also explained that having some sort of notice requirement is how we keep our rates low for all of our customers. With storage there is never a pro-rating of your move out date, that is industry standard; you always have the last day of that month to move out of the unit. We also tried explaining that but he thought that you would get a credit back for moving out based on daily usage, that is not the case with self storage. We did not end up re renting the space yet, however we did Credit *** back for ***** rent because we didn't want to see a customer this upset over this policy. We are more fair on our policy than 99% of self storage facilities, again almost all others require 30 day notice. We didn't raise rent on *** unlike many storage companies that raise rent frequently based on occupancy, we run a very lean business and rely our our customers and full facility to keep the rates low for everyone, we have this policy for the benefit of our tenants, not for us. Unfortunately *** doesn't see it this way, We mean no ill will to *** and understand his point of view on this. We have had lots of customers experience this same process and have yet to have any upset, most are very understanding that they didn't provide proper notice and appreciate that we work to get them a credit back even though its not required.
