Took our new used minivan to G ***** automotive in *******. The van had an oil change sticker on the windshield that it had been serviced at ************ so we decided to take it to them for an oil change. We then asked them if they could take a look at our muffler that we thought maybe it needed some work. They said yes to make an appointment and so we did. Took it in for an estimate and they told us it needed a new muffler and that it would cost us $503.65 to have the muffler replaced. We then set up another appointment to have the muffler replaced. We asked what the warranty was and they said one year. We took it in and they replaced the muffler and clamps and one of the pipes but when my husband picked it up, it was stillmaking noise. We waited a little over a week and then called back and told him that the muffler was still making noise and it sounded like it was getting worse. They had us make another appointment to have it looked at. Took it back into that appointment and I think they tried to doctor it and it still was making noise so then they looked at it and said that it needed a new Y pipe another ****** to fix that. Now they did tell us it was only the muffler we had it in for an estimate. We did not want to spend $685 more so we-took it to another mechanic and he said the work that was done on it. He could not believe that a professional had done it. The clamp was tightened so tight they could not get the bolts off and it had smashed the pipe. It had to be cut off and redone. We were able to use the muffler, but everything else had to be replaced and it did not need a Y pipe. My husband went back to the shop to show them the clamp and how it had to be cut off and they did nothing about and so it ended up costing us twice to have our muffler done. Ive never filed a claim or anything about a business before, but I feel my husband did everything he could to try to talk to the owner or whoevers in charge to get to the bottom of this

    Business Response

    Date: 05/28/2025

I have spoken with *** **** on the afternoon of 5/28. I apologized for the poor workmanship that was done on the van. He and I had a good conversation and came to an understanding for what would make him as happy as he could be, considering the circumstances. I offered him a refund for the labor and my difference between my cost of the parts and the retail cost. He felt that was very fair. I thought this matter had been settled this afternoon before this complaint came through. If there's something further that has to be done I would hope that he would reach out to me and discuss it further. Rod is coming in on Thursday, 5/29 to pick up the check.
