Contacted Mercury Marine customer service regarding an issue with an outboard motor. Im 68yrs old and have NEVER heard a company representative care less about addressing an issue. He didnt even want to hear the make or model number. The guy was absolutely worthless. I highly recommend not buying from this company. I can honestly say that Ive never had a more useless conversation. It was pathetic. Im not even a guy who does a review like this. Well, I guess I am now. Happy boating folks

Mercury Marine takes great pride the support we provide to our customers. I apologize for the negative interaction Mr. **** had with one of my team members and I'd like to research the interaction further. Would it be possible for Mr. **** to share his engine serial number, and some basic information about the call, e.g., date and time of the call, the name of the agent he spoke with, or the phone number he called Mercury from?

No individual should purchase a Mercury product unless they plan on buying a new outboard for every breakdown, or adaption. I purchased a 9.9 Pro Kicker NEW in March of 2024 and additional warranty. The product is advertised by Mercury for use with Tiller, or remote controls. I ordered a Mercury Conversion Kit 895284A01 Conversion Kit for this engine to run it as the primary propulsion on a pontoon boat. The kit originally had a release date of April 8th 2024, then was pushed to May 12th, then May 31st, June 21st, and after calling Mercury customer support today, I was told there is no information on any release dates for this Kit, and there is very low demand. I asked the Rep if Mercury would hold the start date on my Warranty until the unit is actually put into the water, answer "NO". I asked if they could send a partial kit, so I could at least setup everything less the Electric Solenoid Choke, and use this product, the answer was "NO". I asked if he could tell me what specific parts were not available, the answer was "NO". I asked if he could give me the contact information for their supplier, the answer was, "NO". I did not spend big $ on this engine its a $3K engine, and $1K conversion kit. Mercury has shown me the absolute poorest customer service and support for their product. Offering no options or solutions for my specific problem. I will most likely cut my losses sell this outboard and buy from another manufacturer. DO NOT BUY MERCURY!!! let them cater to the big box stores for mass sales. I have received absolutely zero value for my investment in this product.

I am the outboard tech for a fishing lodge in ******. We recently purchased two new ACI catamarans with a pair of mercury 600s on each. On sea trail of one of them 4 hours in, one of the mercs blew up. After Merc replaced it, all 4 motors have been plagued with problems. To many for me to list. The "factory tech" ******************* from mercury came out pre season and assured us he would do whatever it takes to see these motors through the 2023 season. I can't even get him to answer a text, let alone help with any of the many problems. We spent $400,000 on these motors and can't get so much as a return text with some kind of support. We'll likely be pursuing legal actions against them. I'd never recommend buying any mercury marine products. If I could give a zero star rating, I would.

I bought a 2020 Trifecta yri took that came with a 250 Mercury outboard. The first season it was down 2 weeks for a bad spark plug wire. First time on the water this season it's the shift actuator. The problems always seem to hit on a holiday weekend. I never had issues with my Yamaha outboards. Wish I was back running them

I purchased a boat with a Mercury engine this boat has a 6year warranty and 4 years into it the engine blew up. Dealer said it was a failed fuel injector and it's not covered under warranty that may be away for Mercury to wisely out of paying a warranty claim but that doesn't make it right. It's a failed OEM part and they should do the right thing and stand behind their product. I will never do business with them again.

They can't provide parts for the garage they sell. My motor has been waiting for seals for 6 months. It went in for a 100 hour service as it is brand new. Warranty. Ha ha . Bull **** . Went in October 7 the and I still don't have it back. This is ridiculous. Buy anything but Mercury Marine.

I purchased a 9.9HP Mercury outboard two years ago (May-2020) with a 3 yr warranty. I have now had it in for repairs twice in the last month with authorize Mercury repair shops for $600, for the same problem. Ant they recommend $1000 of additional repairs. This year the motor would not idle. The engine stalls below 1500 RPM which is much too high for idling. The first repair shop said something was stuck in the carburetor and they blew it out. It made a white puff? That repair shop said there was very little debris in the carburetor. They also inspected the rest of the components in the fuel line and the gas. They said the gas was good and they put more fuel additive in this gas. The motor ran great for 3 weeks (about 3 hrs of use) then the exact same problem occurred. I took it to a second authorized Mercury repair shop (dealer's shop). They said it had a little debris in the carburetor and this was the problem. They said it was from the fuel. How can this be after 3wks and 3 uses, and after the first repair shop confirmed the fuel and fuel lines are clean? No fuel was added after the first repair. I do not believe they found the cause of this problem and are quick to blame the customer and not honor the warranty. Very disappointed in the costs and not being able to use the boat much this year.

We sincerely apologize for ******************** frustration regarding the repair of his engine. The dealer has reported to Mercury ***************** that debris was found in the carburetor, creating a fuel delivery issue. This would not be a warranty defect. Should the dealer have new information to present to *****************, we encourage them to do so and the information can be further reviewed.

I appreciate your response. However the response from Mercury that they supposedly found debris from the fuel in the carburetor does not make sense to me. I had the carburetor clean along with the fuel system 3 weeks prior by an authorized Mercury maintenance shop. They went ahead and cleaned the carb and fuel system even though they said it was very clean for a 2 yr old engine. So I asked the second repair shop and Mercury customer support how this new debris could have occurred after just 3 wks and 3hrs of use with clean fuel and fuel lines? They did not answer this question. I also ask them to scrape off and collect the debris so I could look at it. They said they would not do that. I am not satisfied that they have found the cause of the problem.I am certainly no expert in marine engines. However I have 30 yrs of engineering and program management experience developing, testing and debugging a wide range of new products including 12 yrs working on turbine engines. I am just looking for simple cause-and-affect/root-cause assessment of this problem. I have accepted that I will soon have to discard this 2yr old engine and buy a new (different) engine. I am just hoping to warn other potential customers of this risks with this small Mercury engine. Thanks again. I often use BB ratings and information to help me make decisions. It reminds me of the days when we usualy had peer reviews before publishing papers. Similar to what you are doing to see if this is a valid complaint.

As previously noted, a manufacturing defect has yet to be presented to Mercury Marine for warranty consideration. If a dealer finds, through further inspection, something which they believe is a manufacturing defect we encourage them to contact our **************************** to discuss.

Purchased a Motorguide Tour Pro 82 August of 2021. In April of 2022 I received a programmer to apply a recall update to the trolling motor. I attempted to apply the update on 6/4/2022 following the instructions provided. While performing the update the programmer died leaving the trolling motor dead. I contacted Mercury support on 6/7/2022 to attempt to troubleshoot the issue. We were unable to correct the issue. I was informed to email Mercury for a replacement updater, which I never received, and did not receive a reply from the email either. On 6/16/2022 I contacted Mercury support again who informed me the motor will need to be taken to a service center for repair. The service center was able to get me in on 7/7/2022 where I left my boat with trolling motor attached, at their request. They inspected the trolling motor and contacted Mercury for parts on 7/17. As of today, 8/26/2022, they still have no received parts. I was informed that there is no ETA on when they will receive parts. Going on 3 months without a working trolling motor and my boat sitting at a service center for 2 months. At this point I would like my trolling motor replaced. 3 months of down time with no timeframe on it being repaired is unacceptable.
