I will never go there again! My Ford Escape needed a new torque converter, and although I usually do my own work I didn't have time. I only made it about halfway home from Jim's before the Escape lost power and could no longer drive, while making noises like the fluid pump was sucking air. It needed to be towed the rest of the way home. When I started diagnosing the new (different behavior) problem, I found missing bolts, things not put back properly and damaged parts. I also found that one of the joints between parts of the intake track leading to the turbo had not been reconnected. It appears that they did not remove the two part plastic cowl that is over the rear portion of the engine compartment and around the windshield wipers, and instead yanked things out from underneath. The first damage I found was the vacuum port on the intake (on top of the engine, between air filter and turbo) where one hose from the vapor canister purge valve connects had been broken clean off. They apparently tried unsuccessfully to glue it back on (and didn't say anything). The plastic retaining clips from every connection in the purge valve tubing (you push them in to release the connection, like the connections on the newer plastic fuel lines) had all been picked out and were broken or missing (not available separately), requiring replacement of the purge valve assembly. The rear two of the four pegs that the plastic engine cover snaps down onto were also broken off, one still stuck in the cover itself. One of the three pop-in mounts for the air filter housing was also snapped off. Multiple bolts and screws were missing, and wiring had been re-run incorrectly. Once it was clear that something inside the transmission had failed I towed the Escape to a different shop to install a used transmission. They informed me that 5 adjacent bell housing bolts (more than half of the total) that hold the engine and transmission together were also missing. Some of this was basic!

As difficult as it may be to find a reliable and honest mechanic these days, I am pleased to say Jim is one of the very few guys left that you can count on to get the job done right! He takes his work very seriously and does what is needed to keep his business going strong. Thanks again Jim!!!
