On April 17, I took my wife's car (2008 RL Acura Sedan) in to MIKES AUTO REPAIR LOCATED 923 ******** ST, LAKE GENEVA ** ***** to diagnose a problem she was having with the radiator. They charged me $1515.37 to replace the radiator. I received the car back and paid their invoice on 4/21/23.On 5/12/23 my wife complained to me that the car was not working properly. When I examined the car, there was a pronounced burning clutch smell around the vehicle. It became apparent that all the transmission fluid had leaked out of the car (other than the amount in the transmission pan). She had driven the car 30+ miles w/o transmission fluid I re-filled the car with transmission fluid & took the car to a second auto repair shop to find out what was happening (*************** IN ***** **). The owner told me that the radiator job done by MIKES AUTO REPAIR had been botched, &the transmission line feeding into the radiator had been installed incorrectly &was leaking transmission fluid at the radiator. He said whoever installed the transmission line during the radiator installation had torqued hard down on the ****** bolt & overtightened the bolt leading to a busted ****** on the transmission line. There was untold damage to the transmission. I spent $230 fixing the mistake and I contacted Mikes Auto Repair on May 16. On may 17th I brought the car into their shop and spoke to the service manager directly. The service manager offered only to write a check for $230.When I explained the circumstances &that my wife will need a new transmission somewhere in the near future, this fell on deaf ears. At that point I asked the service manager to give me a refund on his services of $1515.37.He refused. When I asked for the contact information of ******************* the owner he also refused to provide this information. Since that time I have called 3 times & asked the Service manager for a refund of ******* & also for a call from ******************* the owner. I have never received anything

      Business Response

On April 17th Mr ******* Acura was in our shop due to an overheating issue and the diagnosed cause was the leaking radiator.  We were authorized to replace the radiator along with corresponding components and fluids to complete the job.  On 5/16/2023 *************** contacted our shop about the issue and told us it was being fixed at another shop.  He brought the paperwork in to show us what he paid for the repair.  We offered to pay for the additional expenses he paid.  *************** asked What about the other $1500.00?.  *************** explained that he would need a new transmission in the near future due to this issue and we offered to put a warranty on his transmission if he would like.  At that point we declined the offer and made contact with the parts vendor who provided the radiator.  The parts vendor has warranty programs to cover repairs if a part fails. *************** did not let us repair the vehicle nor did he ever bring it back to us to see any of the follow up repairs. We did not build the radiator or the line attached to the radiator.  The radiator comes as an assembly.  We do not manufacture or build the fittings or tighten the fittings out of the box.  The parts vendor declined any warranty without the radiator being replaced.  The part was customized by the other shop based on the customer's decision.  If we would have been able to perform the repairs the vendor would have warrantied the repair.  *************** chose to take the car elsewhere for repair.  We offer a two year or ****** mile warranty. We have been in business for 20 plus years and stand behind our work.
