I registered end of summer/fall 2023 for two conversational Spanish classes through Madison Area Technical College. Something personal came up and I was unable to attend the classes. The school never reached out in any form, email, letter, or phone, in the following months. The instructor never reached out about missed classes. Nothing. Not a word from them. About a week and a half ago, I received a Notice of Referred Debt from the ********* ********** of ******* saying I owed them for the classes I never attended. When I called the school to ask them to remove these charges, their only solution was to pay anyways and maybe get reimbursed 60% if I could prove my personal reasons for not being able to attend were good enough for them. I asked why I never received any communication and they said they sent letters but they didn't even send them to my correct address so who knows where they sent my personal information. I call bs because they had no issue sending me a tax form I just received today, 1/24.

The ****** of ************ and Continuing Education(*****) at Madison College strives to serve its students by providing high-quality professional and enrichment courses. Because our courses are non-degree and occur during non-traditional time frames, the ***** courses are not embedded in the early alert system that tethers the student to a specific academic advisor.  The student in question self-enrolled in two Spanish courses on June 26th. Spanish I began on August 28, and Spanish II began on September 16th. Before each course, the student would have received the routine introductory e-mail associated with the beginning of each class. These notifications should have made the student aware that he was still enrolled in classes and should have been promoted to drop if it was not his intention to continue. There is no record of the ***** Office ever being contacted by the student to dispute the billing, nor does the College's ***************** have a record of a dispute in the client relationship management system(CRM). That said, ***** is willing to work with the student to resolve the dispute if they contact our office at ************

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Last June 26th, I signed up for Spanish 1 beginning August 28th and Spanish 2 beginning September 16th. For personal reasons, I was unable to attend and had too much going on personally to remember to withdraw. In the following months, I heard nothing from ****.
On this January 16th, I received from the ********* ********** of ******* a Notice of Referred Debt for the amount of $470.35 without receiving any communication from ****.
Shortly after receiving the notice, on January 16th at 10:14am, I had a 16 minute phone call with **** at ************ disputing the billing. I was never told I needed to reach out to ***** Office. I was advised that there were letters sent out but they were not delivered to me.
In ****'s response to the BBB, they are either innaccurate, or negligent. MATCs response states there is no record of the ***** Office ever being contacted by the student to dispute the billing, nor does the Colleges ***************** have a record of a dispute in the client relationship management system(CRM).
What happened in MATCs systems to my phone call from 1/16 at 10:14am? Id also like to know more about MATCs mishandling of my PII.

      Regards,

      ***************** (formerly ****)

On 2/8/24 ************* made with the student, the student was  advised that their account would be corrected. As of 3/1/24 their account is zeroed out and Madison College Student Financials has notified the debt collection agency. The student will receive a refund, however, given the number of agencies involved, this may take up to 60 days. Madison College considers the matter now closed.
