This is the second time Champion Appliance Care/Dryer Doctors came out to help with a dryer issue and both times they were very friendly, helpful, and honest. Would definitely use them a 3rd time if needed! (In the second instance, Jeff and Jason drove out to help.)

Scam. Beware! We live in a very nice house & wanted a routine cleaning of our vacuum vent. Jeff claimed there was a major issue (for a ton of money) mid job and wanted it immediately fixed. If we didn’t fix it, he was going to walk away mid job. My husband simply wanted to consult with me (I was at work). He left our vents unattached and didn’t tell us and took pieces of equipment so we couldn’t reattach it. Jeff screamed at my husband in front of my mother and children! He forced payment out of my husband even though the job wasn’t done. We didn’t find out the dryer vent wasn’t attached until days later and continued to dry out laundry. My son had a bad asthma attack as a result in the middle of the night. Once we contacted the owner about the job he responded with a generic letter from his lawyer threatening us (including if we left a review and if we contacted our credit card company for the scam). I contacted the better business bureau. I suspect this is how they respond to other customers and why you don’t see any poor reviews!

Hello M.S.We're sorry you could not be home during the entire service call. I would truly appreciate the opportunity to speak with you by phone to answer any remaining questions or discuss any details. This service call at your home would likely have been completed with your presence, as that happens 99% of the time when the owner is present. (Mr. * informed us that he is not a co-owner and could not decide on one of the two options to move forward--finish the service call.) Having to reply to you via this post instead of speaking by phone call is quite unusual. The circumstances outlined below that Mr. * initiated warranted our first written communication with you and subsequently this reply. You can read our 85+ ****** reviews to see that we are a 5-star rated legitimate business. ****** reviews cannot be manipulated as suggested in your review. Reviews represent what people truly think of a business and have to be voluntarily submitted through users' private logins to their *mail accounts. You were wise to assign Mr. * to look into the problem immediately. When lint spews out around your dryer and the laundry room is noticeably warmer, it indicates that the dryer is not exhausting properly. During our inspection, a very strong backdraft was inside the dryer vent. A backdraft can cause the problem you are experiencing. Our having to leave your home before either cleaning the dryer vent (and booster blower in the attic) or installing a short 5-foot new vent out the side wall was by Mr. * request. With his approval, we cleaned the dryer, installed a new bath damper, and provided a detailed invoice/report informing of the remaining hazardous situation. These items were all completed before he voluntarily paid for the services. We were 60 minutes away from completing one of two service options that we had presented to Mr. * when he told us he wanted to get a second opinion and speak with you, who he said was the home's legal owner. He said he could not move forward without the owners' consent. He did not claim ownership of the house himself. Mr. * was shown the dirty booster blower via our camera inspection equipment and the location for a possible replacement vent. Either option required 60 minutes or so to complete. He called his father-in-law in our presence, who we understood owns many apartments in *********. He wanted his opinion. Eventually, he decided to ask us to wrap it up. He was presented with the Invoice/report and paid for the service call. THIS IS LISTED ON THE REPORT/RECEIPT: Upon arrival, we were told that the dryer vent exited at the back of the home. After investigating, we determined it exits the roof. We also found a very strong downdraft within the dryer vent. Once we disconnected the dryer from the wall. Further investigation showed, there is a booster blower in the attic. There is significant lint buildup on the fan blades, which will require the blower to be disconnected, cleaned, and reinstalled, and then have the Venting re-insulated. We recommend installing a new vent out the side of the laundry room, which is the front of the home. This will reduce the total length of the vent to approximately 5 feet with only one elbow. No booster is required. With a shorter vent system, you can go much longer between cleanings and have less expensive service calls. IMPORTANT: a dryer vent system that is not operating properly recently represents a potential fire hazard. We highly recommended either cleaning the system or rerouting at the time of our service call, but we were informed by ***** wished to get a second opinion. Due to liability reasons, we cannot connect a dryer to a venting system that is not operating properly. Therefore, we left the vent unplugged from the wall. His delayed action on the day of the service call remains the most confusing. We were at your home on Wednesday. We received a call to our office from Mr. * (recorded) on Friday, where he complained about the dryer not being connected! The reasons for not connecting were clearly explained on both the receipt and verbally in person. During that phone call, he mentions, "if ******* finds out about this, she is going to be angry." And you should! Mr. * should have presented the two options to you immediately on Wednesday evening when you returned home from work. Particularly peculiar and alarming was that Mr. * threatened to publicly trash our company name and contact an attorney regarding our unwillingness to reconnect the dryer. Again, this is all documented on a recorded line. Perhaps he merely wanted to use what he felt was a "power word" by saying "attorney." But for what? To get us to reconnect the dryer that could overheat and cause a fire? Not happening. This was a bizarre request because we had:1. Laid out the specifics 2. Allowed him to choose between 2 options 3. Respected his decision to hold off 4. Outlined the details on the Invoice/report as noted above 5. And left upon his request so he could consult with you and your father about what to do.To receive a call two days later advising us that he would talk to a lawyer was so bizarre I decided to summarize the service call and phone call and have that *************** of explanation sent via our legal counsel. You were copied via email. That correspondence has been interpreted as hostile. It was not. It directly responded to Mr. ** erratic and threatening behavior and direct threats. It was protective from our end. That correspondence attempts to clarify the facts. Clarifications: 1) As mentioned in your review, you will not find any reference to the credit card company. 2) No screaming occurred. Mr. * failed to perform the responsibility you assigned him and resorted to twisting the facts and creating a narrative that, in his words, he summarizes as a 'hack" job. 3)His only complaint during that call was that we did not hook it back up, something he knew we could NOT do the day of the service call due to liability reasons. 4) We needed a decision-maker to choose between the two options presented. After your father provides the input Mr. * is seeking, I would truly appreciate the opportunity to speak personally with you if you wish to discuss any details. I am best reached at the office Mon-Fri 8 AM4 PM. Why wait to October to reply?1 -- The information above was written a few days after you posted your review. We first learned yesterday, October 20, 2023, that upon the credit card *************** full review of this information, Mr. ** attempt to stop payment on the services rendered was rejected due to the evidence provided. We first felt the liberty to reply, now that the third party brought into the situation by Mr. *, has issued its final decision. 2 The reply is written in the present tense, as we fully expected to correspond soon after the service call. That was put on hold due to Mr. ** actions with the payment. 3 -- Please note that BBB does not permit businesses to reply to posts in such a way that identifies the customer. Hence the reason for M.S. and Mr. ******* you,************** Dryer Doctors
