I chose Legacy Exteriors to work with to install siding on my 2-story house and garage. I am very very happy with the work they did, and how quickly they finished the job. When there were problems, as there always are, they did the right thing and I really appreciate this.

The worst contractor I ever worked with. I would give them -5 if that is an option. Here is what has happened in the last six month of working with Legacy Exteriors. ALL FACTS, and FACTS ONLY. 1. Illegal contract without any start or complete dates listed, violates the ATCP110, WI Home Improvement Practices. 2. Over four months to build a sunroom that is supposed to take two to three weeks. 3. The city did three inspections, and Legacy failed all with multiple items listed, including footing, floor, missing a point load, and violating fire code, etc. 4. Legacy failed to choose correct fire-rated material for the sunroom, which violates the fire separation code. And failed again in inspection, they blamed the shed, which was built by previous owner several years ago, for too close to the sunroom they were building. 5. Out of courtesy and also wanting to get the project done, I agreed to move the existing shed so that they don't need to replace their sunroom's materials, which obviously will cost a lot more. But, they still refused to give me a schedule, even after I requested it multiple times. So, on Nov 1st, I gave them a reasonable timeline, which is confirmed by ******** City Building Inspection Department; and notified them that if they were late again, I would hire someone else to complete the job and deduct the extra cost from the final payment for Legacy. Within a couple of hours, Legacy's owner called me and told me that he decided to put the project ON HOLD. Furthermore, he threatened that he would file a lien. 5. I requested Legacy multiple times to come to solve the sunroom material issue, all failed. Then I decided to cancel the contract per Wis. Adm. Code s. ATCP 110.07, as suggested by DATCP. And Legacy's response is, filed a lien against my property, knowingly that demanding full payment before the completion of a project violates the law Wis. Adm. Code s. ATCP 110.02. Yes, their attorney knows it violates the law, and still did it.

We contracted Legacy to pull off the siding on our house, reside, and patch a few spots on the roof where a chimney and a vent was removed. Here are some points related to the job: -They repeatedly showed up unannounced and there was a general lack of communication. I asked to be notified when they were coming and the lady at the office gave me a short/annoyed response (clearly showing her annoyance with me as a customer). -I didn't have gutters contracted, but they got trashed when they were removed. After the siding was complete, they were ready to send me the bill saying they were done. I had to point out that my house had no gutters. Upon inspection for an additional quote, Legacy said they always include gutters because they almost never can be reused. That would have been nice to know the first time around. -When they put the gutters in, one of the downspouts was not in the location that we had discussed when we walked the property. I had to bring that up to and they had to come back and change it. -I had a gable pediment with my original contract. I asked about it on the first day of work and my Legacy contact wasn't aware I had even purchased it. Instead of ordering a beautfiul piece of millwork, they did it "in house" with some 2x4s. The end result looked nothing like the picture in my contract. Also, until I asked them to, they were thinking I was going to stain it. I couldn't believe the homeowner was expected to do some of the work. -They ordered material without notifying me (owner) of the extra cost. They charge $100 per sheet of $23 OSB and they got 6, so I had to pay another $600. Would have been nice to know. -My contract included a thin layer of insulation behind the siding. They didn't insulate my porch. When asked, they said porches don't need to be insulated...But that's not what I wanted nor was it called out in the contract. -Overall, really poor experience with Legacy. Communication was awful. Oh, and one of my windows started leaking.

We are in the middle of having our NEW siding taken off to replace rotted wood that this company sided over. In fact today, they removed the siding around our stoop and said 'Who did your siding? This flashing is junk, this is going to do nothing to protect your house.' We also found 3 rounds of new carpenter nails in our yard after the site was left messy after installation. We did request some reimbursement for having to pull our siding off and they just stopped responding to emails, so buyer beware!
