I was moving into an apartment in ***********, **. The management company, *************************, issued me a parking permit which I hung on my rear view mirror. While I was moving in Simple Roadside towed my truck. My permit was completely visible! I paid $596.08 to get my truck back. As I was walking up to my truck I took video and my parking permit was completely visible hanging on my rear view mirror. I have a witness who also took video of my completely visible permit. Also, I had the employee working at the time take a picture as well. And we showed him our videos. Simple roadside towed my truck from fond du lac, wi to ******** wi for no reason whatsoever. I want my money. I want this company held liable. In addition to this complaint I'm contacting a lawyer. This company should not be allowed to prey on people for their financial gain. Lastly, they damaged my truck. There is a visible ***** and scratch on my truck.

We are sorry to hear that your car was towed even thougy there was a permit in the vehicle. However, the tow was requested by the property management because the car was parked in a reserved spot. Please note that we do not tow cars from the property without any approriate reason. While we monitor the property, but due to the distance from *******, we often proceed with impounding when requested by the management. As for the damage done to your vehicle, we take pictures of vehicles prior to impoundment. If you could send us pictures of the damage, we can compare them with our records in the database and verify if it's the damage occured while the vehicle was in our care.

    UPDATE:

We have been notified that the management reimbursed the impound fee and the issue was resolved.

Last night (2/21) my car was towed from a friends apartment complex that I have parked at dozens and dozens of times before without any issue. When I went in this morning to get my car, they asked for a payment of $342.88, 150 of which was for a special equipment charge. When I asked what the special equipment used was, they could not provide me with an answer at all, and there was no further break down of it on the receipt either. I have a ******* ******, an average car that doesnt require special equipment to tow, and I was parking in a normal parking spot that didnt require unusual maneuvers to tow either. I feel like there was no legal grounds in charging this unreasonable additional fee, and they are likely doing this to all the people that fall into the trap.

My vehicle was towed from an apartment complex, however the towing company did not inform the police of towing. Unfortunately, the apartment complex did not know who towed, therefore I had to file a police report for missing vehicle. The police confirmed both then and after I eventually got my vehicle back that Simple Roadside never reported the towing, and therefore towed me illegally. The only reason I found where the vehicle was located was through police driving around ******* in the middle of the night, where they found it on Simple Roadside's lot. The officer I spoke with recommended I file a complaint for illegal towing. I was charged $342.88 to retrieve my vehicle. Here is what I was able to find regarding the law: ******************************************* _code/trans/319/ Trans ****** ************** notification requirements. (1) Notice of tow to law enforcement. Prior to removing a vehicle from private property pursuant to s. ****** (3m), Stats., a towing service shall give notice of the impending tow to the police department for the municipality in which the vehicle is parked or, if that municipality has no police department, the sheriff of that county. The towing service shall deliver the notice to the law enforcement agencys non-emergency telephone number I want to make sure law is followed while towing in the future (to avoid frustrations, unnecessary police reports, officer time spent),and have my payment refunded. Also - they requested driver's license,VIN, and registration, and said it was OK if that was located inside the vehicle and they would look at it after I returned to my vehicle. However, they never looked at my license or registration, only VIN number on a car service invoice I brought with me. So in actuality, there was no confirmation about who I was nor that the vehicle was in my name. Lastly, I believe I was overcharged, as the *** rule relating to Towing of Vehicles indicates max charge $150. I also never received a receipt.
